This will be the 100th edition of the Community Shield, the English super cup played between the current Premier League and FA Cup champions. Manchester United has the most victories with 21. They also won the first ever Community Shield in 1908. Leicester City is the defending champions after beating Manchester City in last year’s game. But they won’t be able to defend their title after not winning any of these notable titles.

But English football fans are for a treat again as last season’s best teams, Liverpool and Manchester City will meet at the King Power Stadium in Leicester. The match is usually held at Wembley Stadium. But it had to be moved this year after the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euros Final takes place in the capital on the same weekend.

Liverpool v Man City Betting Tips for the 2022 Community Shield Game

Manchester City return to this year’s Community Shield following their 1-0 defeat against Leicester City in 2021. The Premier League champions signed one of the best strikers of the moment, Norwegian Erling Haaland in the summer. Along with English national Kalvin Philipps and German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. A few players have also left the team like Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko. But the squad is still super-strong and can start the new season with a win.

At least according to online sportsbooks in the UK, who slightly favor them to win the match against the big rivals, they offer the odds of 2.50 for their win. City have won this trophy six times so far, last time in 2019 when they won against Liverpool. That match went to a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw in the normal and extra time. A draw is a very likely scenario again based on the results of the last five games. As three of them ended with a 1-1 result. The same result has the odds of 6.50 in the Liverpool v Man City betting tips. Both teams are predicted to score as well (1.66). While having more than 2.50 goals has the odds of 1.80 on bet365.

Can the Reds Start the Season with a Win?

Liverpool finished as a runner-up in the 2021/22 Premier League season only a point behind the defending champions, Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to win both the EFL and the FA Cups which earned them a place in the 2022 Community Shield. The Reds have won this trophy 15 times before. But their last victory is from 16 years ago, in 2006.  Now their odds to win the match and beat City are 2.75 on online gambling sites in the UK. A win against their main rival can surely give a huge boost ahead of their new season.

Where Uruguayan Darwin Nunez can be a key player of the team and score goals along with Mohammed Salah and Diogo Jota. The new signing from Benfica cost £67,5 million but looks like he was worth it. As Nunez has already scored four goals in the friendly match against RB Leipzig last week. Another important player, Sadio Mane has left the team though along with Takumi Minamino and Ben Davies.

Still, Liverpool can fight again for all trophies including this one in Leicester. The two teams met last time in April in the FA Cup semi-final which ended with a Pool 3-2 victory. If you think that this weekend’s game will end with the same result, you can make a bet for that for the odds of 29.00.
