Premier League side Newcastle United could soon see a change in ownership, if the proposed £300m bid tabled by Amanda Staveley – a popular businesswoman in sports – goes through.
If current owner Mike Ashley were to sell the club, it could potentially see the Magpies armed with bigger transfer budgets in the future.
According to The Guardian, Staveley tabled an initial bid of £250m for the North East side, however Ashley turned it down, believing it to have a valuation closer to around £400m. Should he accept Staveley’s improved bid of £300m, it would bring an end to his decade-long ownership of the club, having purchased it in May 2007 for around £135m.
However, with Newcastle’s disappointing performance on the pitch this season could be a stumbling block to finalizing the deal.
