Who Will Swing a Win to Wear the Green Jacket at This Year’s Golf US Masters?

Spieth has the best odds of winning more than the $1.6 million that went to last year’s winner in the Golf US Masters.
The Golf US Masters which is scheduled to start on April 6 and to end on April 12 is being held in Augusta, Georgia (USA) at Augusta National Golf Club. The Masters is an invitations-only event and is therefore limited in size and attendance. Since its start in 1949 the winner is expected to return to the club wearing the emblematic green jacket.
Among those who have sported the distinctive green jacket is Tiger Woods who won the US Masters 4 times, starting with his first Masters in 1997 at the tender age of 21. This year there will be 10 top youngish contenders, to watch out for, who ate at the Champions Dinner table, another tradition, inaugurated by Ben Hogan in 1952.
Top of the list is Jordan Spieth from Texas, who won his last match in the Valspar Championship. He was the first under 25 to come second in his debut at Augusta last year. Both Spieth and Bubba Watson, last year’s defending champion, are who Americans are betting on to win, as is allowed under US gambling laws, in this year’s Masters. He does seem to have a certain edge though, over Watson, with sports betting odds of 10-1.
24 year old Victor Dubuisson, who holds the 18th place in the Official World Golf Ranking, has an 80-1 chance of winning, having played rather poorly this year, both in the PGA Tour where he participated in three starts and in the European Tour. As he missed cut at Augusta last year, nothing better is expected of him this year, unless of course he’s been fooling everyone ‘til now.
Brooks Koepka, who is all of 24 years old, had to withdraw in his last match, because of a rib injury, which obstructed his breathing, during the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which took place on March 2. However, Koepka remains firm in his decision to debut his Masters next week and has accumulated sports betting odds of 66-1.
Rory McIlroy, who is 25, is the winner of his last two major championships, which has put him as an 11-2 favorite to win. McIlroy is a Masters commoner, having already participated in 2009, 2010 (with a missed cut ), 2011, 2013 and 2014. He came 15 in the 2011 Tournament but hopes to chase a career as s a Grand Slam after this one.
24 year old Patrick Reed, another Texan vying for the green jacket, had a missed cut at Augusta in 2014. He's already hit success won once, on tour, this season and was first runner up at the Valspar Championship. Hideki Matsuyama seemed to have gotten more media attention because of his amazing amateur career at Augusta National and not as a professional player. He finished 27 in 2011, when he was just 19, then he went all the way down to 54th position in 2012 and missed out in 2014. Will he be apt to place better this year? 66-1 betting odds attest to this.
Good luck to Jason Day, the eldest of the young ‘uns to test the greens next week in Georgia. Aged 27, Day came second in 2011, 3 in 2013, but dropped to 20 position last year and blamed his descent to an injured thumb or was it arthritis?. We’ll see because with a 12 to1 odds of winning, he’s definitely a favorite.
Bubba Watson, a favorite contender, won the tournament last year so his odds of winning in this year are between 12-1 and 9-1. He’s right there behind Rory McIlroy on the score board and boasts good wins of third place in the Waste Management Phoenix Open and third place in the WGC-Cadillac Championship. No surprise then if he comes in neck to neck with Speith or even overtakes him.
Dustin Johnson has a lot to celebrate, if not over the birth of his first child then surely for his win in the GC-Cadillac Championship as he faced off against Doral. However, given his missed cut in the 2014 Masters finish the odds range of him winning is between 18-1 and 14-1.
