Gambling in Algeria
Gambling is forbidden by law in Algeria. Approximately 99% of the population here is Muslim, and therefore does not gamble.
There are no casinos operating in Algeria, as all forms of casino gambling are forbidden by islamic law.
One of the only forms of gambling that is somewhat legal in Algeria is horse racing. The Hippodrome de Caroubier in Algiers, Algeria puts on horse races that locals can sometimes bet on.
Surprisingly, Algeria does have a national lottery in place that is organized by the Pari Sportif Algerien. They offer two types of lottery games. The first is called Loto Erriadhi, which is 6/49 and Loto Mohtaref, at 7/35.
Algeria’s national lottery charges heavy taxes to winners. The tax money goes into sports programs for youth and other economic programs.
Online Gambling in Algeria
Online gambling is also illegal inside Algeria. The government here introduced internet censorship in 2010, and has attempted to block local Algerians from accessing foreign gambling websites.
It is possible to play casino games online here through a foreign site, but penalties can be severe if caught.
