  • 2021 Figure Skating US Grand Prix is held 22-24 October in Las Vegas
  • Skate America is the first Grand Prix of the season
  • Nathan Chan is the favorite in the men’s and Alexandra Trusova in the women’s event

Figure skating fans don’t have to wait long now until the first Grand Prix of the season. As the 2021 Skate America is held this weekend, between the 22nd and 24th of October in Las Vegas. Some of the best skaters will be there including Nathan Chan in the men’s and Alexandra Trusova in the women’s event. Both skaters are the favorites to win the trophy in the 2021 Figure Skating US Grand Prix odds.

The 2021-22 Grand Prix of Figure Skating season starts this weekend with Skate America and will be followed by five more GPs before the Grand Prix Final in December. Skaters with the most points can qualify for the final in Osaka, Japan which is the first major race of the season. In this first stop in Las Vegas, we can already see some of the best figure skaters, like three-time world champion Nathan Chan. He will try to win the event for the fifth consecutive year. Other American favorites include the ice dance pairs of Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue. While in the women’s event Russian Alexandra Trusova is the one to look.

2021 Figure Skating US Grand Prix Odds Favor the World Champion In the Men’s Event

Nathan Chan has won all Skate America since 2017 and will aim for another victory at the Orleans Arena this weekend. The 22-year-old American is the reigning world champion and the top favorite to win in the 2022 Winter Olympics as well. First, though Chan has to perform well on home soil ahead of the American fans. Who can return to the arena following last year’s closed-door event? Chan will perform for the first time this season with last year’s short program and a new free program. Online sportsbooks in Russia offer the odds 1.13. for his fifth victory.

Japanese Shoma Uno can be his biggest rival who is the silver medalist from the 2018 Olympics. He also got the silver twice in the world championship in 2017 and 2018. But last season he wasn’t so convincing and only finished fourth in the world event. The 23-year-old skater won the Japan Open three weeks ago so he can definitely get another good result here. Just like another American, Vincent Zhou who has the odds of 8.00 to win in the 2021 Figure Skating US Grand Prix odds. The 20-year-old finished behind Chan in last year’s Skate America and in the US Championships as well. But after a very poor short program, he couldn’t qualify for the top 24 in the World Championships last season.

Trusova Leads the Women’s Field

Alexandra Trusova is one of the great Russian women skaters who have been dominating the sport in the last few years. Trusova won the bronze medal in last season’s world championships and also in the 2020 European Championships. The still only 17 years old skater is the first female to land a quad Lutz, a quad flip, and a quad toe loop jump, which also feature in her new programs. If she can land them, it is very difficult to beat her. Trusova already won this season at the US International Classic in Boston last month.  Her program wasn’t perfect though, and other top skaters might catch her now. Like her compatriot, Daria Usacheva who is the silver medalist from the 2020 Junior World Championship.

The 15-year-old finished fourth in last year’s Russian Championships and third in the Russian Cup final. She will make her first appearance in a senior Grand Prix this weekend. No wonder that online gambling sites in Russia mention the Russian skaters as top favorites with the odds of 1.30 and 4.00 on 22Bet. Meanwhile Japanese Kaori Sakamoto and South Korean You Young are likely to fight for the other podium places. Sakamoto has already finished second in the Skate America twice before in 2017 and 2018. And she was sixth in the 2018 Olympics and last year’s world championship. The 17-year-old Young won the bronze medal in the 2019 Skate Canada. And she is the Youth Olympic champion from 2020. Both of them are great skaters but their victory over the Russians would be a huge surprise.
