  • 2021 Women’s European Volleyball Championship is held 18 August - 4 September
  • Four countries host the tournament: Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania
  • Serbia can win their third title in a row after finishing third in the Olympics

The 2021 Women’s European Volleyball Championship will start tomorrow, on the 15th of August, while the final is held on the 4th of September in Belgrade.  One of the hosting countries and also the defending champions, Serbia are the top favorite in the 2021 Women’s EuroVolley odds. But Italy, Turkey, and Russia can fight for the gold medal as well.

24 teams take part in this year’s Women’s European Volleyball Championship which is hosted in four countries: Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania. This is the 32nd edition of the tournament where the best European teams compete. They are divided into four groups of six teams. With the first four teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage. Serbia is the defending champions who won the title for the third time in 2019. They are the second most successful country in the tournament’s history behind Russia (and the Soviet Union). And one of the top favorites again, especially on home soil. Belgrade will host the final on the 4th of September, while Plovdiv will hold some of the knockout matches. Giving some extra advantage for the home teams.

2021 Women’s EuroVolley odds Mention Serbia as Top Favorites

The Serbian team won the bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and they are also the reigning European and World champions. No wonder that online sportsbooks in Serbia favor them to win the tournament with the odds of 3.138. First, though they need to get through to the knockout stage which shouldn’t be a difficult task.

Especially if their main stars like Tijana Boskovic, Maja Ognjenovic, and Milena Rasic perform on the top level. Zoran Terzic’s team can win their third European title in a row which has been only achieved by Russia before.  Who will play in the same group, Pool A as Serbia?

The Russian team has won the European Championship 19 times so far (including the Soviet era). Their last victory is in 2015 but in the last tournament, they only finished in 7th place. And their only medal from the last six years is a bronze medal from the 2019 World Championship. Now the team under the leadership of Italian coach Sergio Busato will aim for another podium finish. Experienced players like Nataliya Goncharova and Evgeniya Startseva, along with young talent Arina Fedorovtseva can help the team to achieve it. Their odds to win the gold are 7.00 in the 2021 Women’s EuroVolley odds.

Italy, Turkey, and the Netherlands will Also Fight for the Title

Italy won the bronze medal in the previous Euros in 2019 but now they can get an even better result. As the team is mentioned in the top favorites by online sportsbook sites in Serbia with the odds of 3.92 to win the gold. Which would be their third European title after their success in 2007 and 2009. They finished 6th in the Olympics and as the runners-up in the previous world championships. So qualifying from the group, Pool C can’t be an issue for the team. Their best player is Paola Egonu, who was the MVP of this year’s CEV Champions League. Miriam Sylla and Monica De Gennaro are also key members of the team.

In Pool D we can find other two teams with a chance of winning the tournament: Turkey and the Netherlands. Turkey finished second in the previous Euros after losing the final against Serbia in Ankara. Now Giovanni Guidetti’s team can take revenge for this defeat. And win the country’s first title after two silver and two bronze medals.

Captain Eda Erdem Dundar and Naz Aydemir Akyol can lead them in Pool D. Where Turkey will play against Romania, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands. Who can also go for the gold medal after their last victory in 1995. The Dutch team was close to another title in recent years after finishing second in 2015 and 2017. Now their odds to win are 8.00, while Turkey has the odds of 6.00 for the gold on 22Bet.
