The first European Open was held back in 1989 but the event was also known as the Irish and Open and Malta Cup before 2016. This year’s European Masters was scheduled to take place in Furth, Germany but had to be reallocated to Milton Keynes. Surely players don’t mind staying in the UK and playing at Marshall Arena again which hosted the 2021 English Open. The 2022 European Masters is the 11th ranking event of the 2021/22 snooker season and part of the European Series. 64 players will compete for the £80,000 top prize including the defending champion, Mark Selby. But John Higgins, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Judd Trump have also won this tournament before.  They can all win again just like top-form Neil Robertson who won the 2022 Players Championship last week.

2022 European Masters winner odds favor Trump and Robertson

Judd Trump has won the European Masters twice so far, in 2016 and 2017 while he got to the semi-finals last season. The world No3 won the 2021 Champion of Champions tournament last November but hasn’t got any win since. He did reach the semi-final of the Masters though in January and got to the quarter-finals three more times. Online sportsbooks in the UK mention him as one of the top favorites and offer the odds of 5.00 for his victory. Trump will play against Michael Judge on the first day, along with the other top four seeds.  Like Neil Robertson, who has the same chance of winning the event according to the 2022 European Masters winner odds. The world No4 has been having a great season after winning the 2021 English Open. Then reaching the final of the 2021 World Grand Prix. The Australian also won the 2022 Masters and the 2022 Players Championship, defeating Barry Hawkins in both finals. He won this tournament in 2020 and will aim for another victory now. Robertson will start against the Chinese player Lei Peifan on Monday.

O’Sullivan, Selby, and Higgins can also get the trophy

Ronnie O’Sullivan will meet another experienced player in his first game, former world No5 Nigel Bond. The duo hasn’t met in 24 years even though they played against each other six times between 1994 and 1998. While Bond is at the end of his career and has to play qualifiers, O’Sullivan is still in his best, currently in second place in the world rankings. The six-time world champion won the 2021 World Grand Prix. And reached the semi-finals at the 2021 English and Scottish Open this season. The Rocket has also won the European Masters once before, in 2003, and has the odds of 6.00 to win it again.  The current world No1, Mark Selby hasn’t been in his best form this season after being knocked out in the early stages at most events. Although he reached the semi-final at the 2021 World Grand Prix last December but lost there against Robertson. Now Selby can try to get back to winning at the European Masters where he is also the defending champion. Online gambling sites in the UK offer the odds of 8.00 for his win. Similar odds are offered for another legend of the sport, John Higgins who is playing superbly this season. The Scottish world No6 has reached the final of four tournaments since last October but lost them all. Except for his fifth one at the 2022 Championship League where he finally got the win against Stuart Bingham. His odds for another victory in Milton Keynes are 9.00 on bet365.
