The first major tournament of this season’s LPGA Tour, the 2022 Chevron Championship is held this week, between 31 March - 3 April in Rancho Mirage, California. Patty Tavatanakit won the event last year on her debut appearance ahead of Lydia Ko. Now the 2022 LPGA Chevron Championship preview mentions the world No1 Jin Young Ko as the top favorite ahead of them and other top players.  The Chevron Championship previously known, as the ANA Inspiration is held at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage for the last time in 2022. Due to the new sponsorship, the tournament will also move to a new location next year. But this year still, the famous Dinah Shore Tournament Course will host the prestigious event. 144 players will compete in the first major tournament of the season, including last year’s winner, Patty Tavatanakit. The world No1 Jin Young Ko and former event winners, Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson. Along with 19-year old Thai Atthaya Thitikul who won her first LPGA Tour title last weekend at the JTBC Classic. 27 players of the top 50 in the world rankings will compete for the trophy and their share of the $5 million prize fund.

2022 LPGA Chevron Championship Preview: Young and Ko Are the Top Favorites

Jin Young Ko won this tournament in 2019 which was her first major title. Followed by another one in the 2019 Evian Championship. She finished seventh last year here but can do much better again according to the 2022 LPGA Chevron Championship preview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlgM2T7gN1M The South Korean player has been on an amazing run, after six wins in her last 10 starts since last June. Young won the 2022 HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore three weeks ago which was her 13th LPGA win. In the absence of world No2 Nelly Korda, Young is the biggest favorite to win in California with the odds of +500.00.  One of her main rivals can be another former winner of this tournament, Lydia Ko. The New Zealand golfer won this tournament in 2016 and was close to winning it again last year. But in the end, she had to settle for second place behind the young Thai player. Ko started this season well after getting her 17th win in the 2022 Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio. She moved to third place in the world rankings. Following her previous results and recent form, it’s not surprising that online sportsbooks in the US mention her in the top favorites with the odds of +1100.00.

Henderson, Thompson, and Thai Players Will Also Fight For The Title

Brooke Henderson finished T2 in the 2020 ANA Inspiration and she can try to win this tournament again. In 2016, at the age of only 18, she became the youngest player to win another major, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKthTOONuQw It is still her only major title but the Canadian player got 9 more LPGA Tour wins. Henderson won her last title almost a year ago, at the 2021 Hugel-Air Premia LA Open. Now her odds to win again are +1200.00. Online gambling sites in the US offer the same odds for the victory of the local favorite, Lexi Thompson.  The American has also won this tournament, her sole major title once before, in 2. The world No12  got her last win in 2019 in Atlantic City. She has been close to winning on a couple of times since then but didn’t manage to stay on top until the end of the tournaments. Thompson might succeed this time on one of her strongest courses. The 2021 winner, Thai Patty Tavatanakit caused a huge surprise with her first LPGA victory. As it was the 22-year-old player’s first time in the tournament. Now her compatriot, Attaya Thitikul can try to do the same though she got her first win last weekend, at the JTBC Classic. Her odds to win again are +1400.00 on BetOnline. While Tavatanakit has the odds of +1900.00 to defend her title.
