All of the categories at the Oscars are important and it’s a great honor to even receive a nomination. Some would argue and agree that the Best Picture category is the most important one out of all. Most people will remember the name of the movies, more so than the names of the actors, directors, makeup artists, etc. It’s not disrespectful, it’s just how it has always been. Not everyone watches movies the same way. Winning the Best Picture award is a big step towards immortalizing a movie forever. Of course, getting a few other wins greatly helps. We’re going to mention some of the favorites to win the award according to online sportsbook news in the US and some potential underdogs that could surprise people at the 2022 Oscars.

Guaranteed Best Picture Nominees At The 2022 Oscars

This year has seen some truly remarkable movies. It’s true however that some of them didn’t perform that well at the box office, but they were still great. We’re already halfway through December and yet there are still some pretty big names that haven’t come out yet. Here are what we think are going to be guaranteed nominees for Best Picture: “Belfast”, “King Richard”, “Licorice Pizza”, “The Power of the Dog”, and “Dune”. These five names will make up half of the ten nomination spots. Belfast is predicted to win the category and get nominations in others as well. Most critics already believe that it will take the award. Sites like Bovada offer odds for these movies. If you’re trying to guess the winner, choose from these five picks, they’re not going to let you down.

Mostly Likely to Receive Nominations

Now to cover the remaining nomination spots. There are a lot of good movies out there that have the chance of making it to the list. For example, the likes of “Don’t Look Up”, “Nightmare alley”, “West Side Story”, “Being the Ricardos”, “C’mon C’mon”, “CODA” all have high chances of scoring a nomination for Best Picture.

But these are not underdogs, they’re expected to score nominations. However, some of them might fall out, and that’s what we’re here for. There are movies that critics praised but don’t think that they will crack the top 10. Online sportsbook sites in the US have bets on the 2022 Oscars underdogs as well. Of course, it’s always good to go with the favorites but correctly guessing the underdog might be more rewarding.

House of Gucci is a 2022 Oscars Betting Underdog

People had great expectations for “House of Gucci” but it kind of bombed a bit. The movie scores a 59 on Metacritic which is okay but it could’ve been better. Lady Gaga gives one of the best performances of her career as the lead in the movie. She even received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. The movie features a great variety of costumes and varying Italian accents that dangles between entertaining and ridiculous. At parts, the story can become boring and sluggish which is then revived by bits of fun throughout. Even though Jared Leto’s performance is the definition of absurd and questionable it received some nominations across multiple award shows. The problem is that MGM already has “Licorice Pizza” within the ranks of the favorites for the category so it’s not a guarantee that they will push this movie.

tick, tick…BOOM! Appeals To The Crowds

The Netflix adaptation has already received multiple nominations at different award shows, including the Golden Globes. This is a movie that can easily enter the top 10 as an underdog at the 2022 Oscars. Andrew Garfield gives an incredible performance and it’s also a crowd-pleaser. The movie scores a 74 on Metacritic which is good but we’re thinking it might not be as popular as the top 10 on the list.

Regardless of this, online sportsbook news in the US also predicts that it can receive a nomination and enter as a 9th or 10th pick. It’s an adapted screenplay based on the life of Broadway talent Jonathan Larson who passed tragically. Even though it is a Netflix adaptation, the movie is also out in cinemas. Netflix has multiple possible nominations and winners so we cannot wait how this turns out.

Kristen Stewart Carries Spencer

Spencer is probably not what many viewers expected. The movie explores the last days of marriage between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Kristen Stewart’s performance is one of the reasons you should bet on the movie and it’s most likely what will keep viewers hooked. She already received many nominations for Best Actress so there’s a chance that “Spencer” will emerge in the top ten nominees for Best Picture at the 2022 Oscars. It’s a bit more popular with critics than the general audiences probably due to the artistic aspects of the film. The studio, NEON, has multiple worthy films out this year but they will most likely push “Spencer”. Don’t be surprised if you see it on Bovada as it is truly a 2022 Oscars underdog.

The Tragedy of Macbeth Enters As an Oscars 2022 Betting Underdog

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” presents the classic Shakespearean play in true aspects of murder, ambition, and drama. The movie currently has a score of 89 on Metacritic and is extremely popular among film critics. If the audiences get on it as well, it can easily crack that top 10.

But since it only releases on Dec. 25th we cannot know how the crowds will react to it. This is why we consider it a betting underdog at the 2022 Oscars. A solo project by Joel Cohen, it features the incredible Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as Lord and Lady Macbeth. The possible problem could be that people are not that familiar with Shakespeare’s plays in a way that they’re a bit difficult to understand. But if it receives the necessary attention it can be something, in many ways.

The Issue With The Last Duel and Last Night in Soho

Here we have two great movies, both amazing in their way but neither one of them is a guarantee. “The Last Duel” is an entertaining historical drama that bombed at the box office for unfortunate reasons. It features a great cast and amazing scenes which are mostly based on real-life events from the period of the Hundred Years War. Online sportsbook news in the US reports that it can very well turn into a sort of Cinderella story and score a Best Picture nomination but it’s not a guarantee. At certain points, the viewer can feel like the story gets repetitive especially since it’s 2 and a half hours long. This is truly an amazing movie that deserves better and maybe the voters will appreciate the story and the acting. We’ll have to wait and see but it would truly be a shame if this didn’t receive any nominations.

“Last Night in Soho” is more or less in the same shoes as “The Last Duel”. The horror-mystery tells a story of a fashion designer who can enter the 1960s where she meets a wannabe singer. The two stars of the movie are Thomasin McKenzie and Anya-Taylor Joy. It’s a beautifully shot movie that has aspects of style, glamor, and a slowly descending dark vibe to it. In short, it’s a great Edgar Wright movie. It hooks you right from the start and although it might slow down at parts it’s an enjoyable feature throughout. This is another case of being a 2022 Oscars betting underdog as it has potential but we’re not sure if it will be enough. You can check the betting odds on Bovada. We think that either of these two movies has the chance to be in the top ten, but not both of them.

The Most Anticipated Movie of 2022 – Not Really a 2022 Oscars Betting Underdog

As you already guessed from the subheading above, “The Batman” is the most anticipated movie of the upcoming year, by far. It has some of the best actors, directors, and stories behind it. The initial release date was pushed back multiple times due to shooting issues, the movie still skyrocketed in popularity each time a trailer or news was released. With the accredited Matt Reeves at the helm, “The Batman” will feature the likes of Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Peter Sarsgaard, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and so on. You can understand the excitement behind it. It’s pretty rare for superhero movies to receive Oscar nominations, especially in the Best Picture category but this movie can easily be an exception. The story will focus on a younger Batman who is still at the start of his career as the world’s greatest detective.

However, there is one issue with this movie being a massive success at the Oscars. “The Batman” will surely be a huge box-office success. The issue is with its release date. It’s coming to theaters on March 4, 2022, and the Oscars will be on the 27th. Due to the two dates being so close to each other it might not have the necessary amount of time to gain enough momentum. A similar case was with “Shutter Island” and “Inception” at the 2011 Oscars. The former was released too late, which led to the studio focusing on “Inception”. We’re not blaming anyone, but the exclusion of a masterpiece such as “Shutter Island” feels a bit sad. Anyway, we hope the case will not be the same with “The Batman”. It releases a bit late but it’s in no way an Oscars 2022 betting underdog.
