With only 3 weeks until the postseason begins, it’s time we look ahead to the 5 MLB teams most likely to win the World Series.

1.) Chicago Cubs: +220

We at GamingZion already touched on the possibility of 2016 being the year the Chicago Cubs break their curse, and it’s beginning to look like more and more of a possibility. The Cubs have the best record in the MLB right now at 104-58, and are the current favorites to win the World Series, according to GTBets, with odds of +220.

At this point, there is almost no possible way the Cubs don’t make the playoffs. Their spot in the postseason is all but confirmed, and it’s now up to them to advance past several streaking teams in order to obtain the championship that has eluded them for so long.

2.) Washington Nationals: +500

The Washington National’s most recent 8-1 thrashing of the New York Mets helped to solidify their predictions to be the future 2016 MLB Champions. Washington is 45-19 overall in their division, with the second best record in the National League after the Chicago Cubs.

It seems that Mat Latos’ recent leg injury has not affected the betting lines, as GTBets still list the Nationals as one of the MLB teams most likely to win the World Series with odds of +500.

Washington is almost guaranteed in the playoffs, but it remains to be seen whether they can continue to perform at the same level against the elite teams heading into the 2016 postseason.

3.) Texas Rangers: +550

There are only three more games between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros, and if the past is any indication, the Rangers will continue to dominate. The season series between the two teams is 13-3 in favor of the Rangers, and a sweep would be very helpful in keeping pace with their AL-Wild Card standings.

The Rangers are currently sporting an impressive 86-59 overall record, with a 47-22 record at home. Their odds of winning the World Series currently sit at +550, placing them at number 3 for the MLB teams most likely to win the World Series.

The Ranger’s reliance on their veteran players has turned out to be beneficial to the team. Their starting lineup for the most recent game against the Astros had a combined 10,699 Major League games, including five players with over 1,000 games each. The experienced players have helped former Astros player Carlos Gomez realize his potential, as well as a number of other players.

4.) Cleveland Indians: +750

What Cleveland has been able to accomplish as a sports city over the past year is truly remarkable. First, Cleveland native UFC fighter Stipe Miocic brought a heavyweight championship to his hometown by knocking out surging Brazilian Fabricio Werdum in the first round. Then, less than a month later, the Cleveland Cavaliers became the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the finals and win the series.

If the Cleveland Indians can manage to win the World Series, Cleveland would be in the running for one of the best sports cities in the US. Unfotuntely, the Indians’ last game was an abysmal 11-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox, the second lowest ranked team in the AL Central.

If the Indians get put this game behind them and play how they did for the majority of the 2016 season, they are undoubtedly one of the MLB teams most likely to win the World Series. GTBets list their odds at +750.

5.) Boston Red Sox: +800

David Ortiz made US gambling news in the Boston Red Sox’s most recent victory over the Baltimore Orioles by tying Mickey Mantle’s career homerun count at 536. Ortiz, one of the Red Sox’s staple players, has been instrumental in elevating his team to become one of the favorites to win this year’s World Series.

So far this season, the Red Sox are 81-62 overall, and 42-30 at home. They are the leaders in the AL East division, and are almost guaranteed to make it into the playoffs, barring a sudden losing streak. Boston is consistently one of the best MLB teams every year, and a 2016 World Series win would be their 9th overall, and 3rd over the past 10 years.

The Red Sox’s odds are currently at +800, making them the 5th most likely team to take home the trophy. They will have their hands full in the playoffs, but some of the most passionate sports fans in the world will be cheering them on.
