Learn all about the tennis “World Cup” including the structure of the tournament and what betting possibilities you have on it.

The ATP Tour is the top-flight tour for men's tennis. It consists of many tournaments, though not the Grand Slams, which are a separate category. In the ATP Tour, there are four types of tournaments, the ATP 250, ATP 500, ATP Masters 1000 and the ATP Finals. All these events have both a men's singles tournament and a men's doubles. Tennis players competing in the tournaments can win a number of points that counts towards their ATP ranking. This way, players who have great seasons can move up in the rankings and those who have not won any major tournaments will fall down the rankings. The rankings are updated every Monday, and players lose points 52 weeks after being awarded.

There are 39 ATP 250 events, though this number may vary from season to season. The player who wins the ATP 250 collects 250 points. There are 13 ATP 500 tournaments, and the winners of this tournament are granted 500 points. The ATP Masters 1000 grants 1,000 points to the winner. There are 9 of these tournaments and they are held in some of the most famous venues around the world. The ATP Finals is the biggest event in the ATP Tour. It is a single tournament that can grant 1,100-1,500 points to the winner. It is often referred to as the fifth Grand Slam, and the venue is rotated every few years.

ATP Tour Main Fixtures

The biggest events in the ATP Tour are the ATP Masters 1000 and the ATP Finals. The ATP Masters 1000 has 9 tournaments which are held in the following venues:

  • Indian Wells Masters, California, USA
  • Miami Open, Florida, USA
  • Madrid Open, Madrid, Spain
  • Italian Open, Rome, Italy
  • Canadian Open, Montreal/Toronto, Canada
  • Shanghai Masters, Shanghai, China
  • Paris Masters, Paris, France

The ATP Tour has been held in other venues too, but these are the current venues. The ATP Finals is the season-ending tournament that is the most significant event in the ATP Tour year. It is played several weeks after the US Open, which is the last Grand Slam of the year, and players have the chance to close the calendar year with a big boost in their rankings.

The ATP Finals was created in 1970, and the first edition was held in Tokyo. To date, it has been held in Japan, France, Spain, the USA, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, China, the UK, and Italy. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are tying for the most ATP Finals wins, with both players achieving 6 titles. Federer won his 6 in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2011. Djokovic won his titles in 2008, 2012-15, and 2022. The ATP Finals doubles tournament was also launched in 1970, and it has been won most by the US doubles team of Peter Fleming and John McEnroe, who won 7 titles between 1978-84.

This way, you can find all the events based on which country they are in and you can explore the various betting markets on the games in each tournament.

Match Winner

For each match, there will be a bet on which player or doubles team will win the match. For example, if Alexander Zverev plays against Nick Kyrgios, you can bet on Zverev to win or on Kyrgios to win.

Handicap of Games

Handicaps are bets on players to win by a margin of games. What this means is that you will bet on your chosen player to win but they will also need to beat their opponent by a certain number of games. The higher you set the handicap, the longer the player’s odds will be.

For example, if you bet on Stephanos Tsitsipas to beat Dominic Thiem with a handicap of -3.5 then you will need him to win by 7 games or more. If Tsitsipas wins the match 6-4, 6-2 then he will have 12 games to Thiem’s 6, which is 4 clear and you will win. However, if he wins 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 then he will only be clear by 3 games, which is not enough.

Total Games

This bet does not relate to which player or team wins the match but to how many games are played. If it is a close match, then a lot of games will be played as the contestants will both win games. If one player wins all the games the match will end with fewer games played.

To place a bet, you can pick one of the betting lines offered and bet on whether the match will end with over or under that number of games.

And Many More

The betting opportunities do not stop there, as there are many more options to explore. You may find bets on the score in games for each set, and bets on all types of match events. The live betting markets also offer plenty of unique bets on what may happen in the ongoing set, the upcoming game, the next two games, and many more.

What is the Davis Cup?

The Davis Cup is the tennis equivalent of the World Cup. Here, all the top players represent their countries and go head-to-head in a knockout tournament. It is a highly thrilling competition that is organised by the International Tennis Federation, or ITF, and is held annually.

There were international tournaments held in the late 19th century. These were exhibition competitions that were held between the USA and Britain, or Britain and Ireland, though no major international tournaments existed in tennis until 1900. Dwight F Davis, an aspiring young tennis player, developed the structure for the international tournament and donated a silver bowl that would be awarded to the winner of the competition. He won the first edition of the competition representing the USA. The first competitions only featured the teams of the USA and Britain, though by 1905 5 other countries had joined: Belgium, Austria, France and Australasia - the latter of which was a combined team of Australia and New Zealand.

More countries joined the competition, and the next biggest change to the competition came in 1973. Up until then, contract professional tennis players were not allowed to play in the Davis Cup. In the Open Era, which began in 1968, tournaments were gradually opened to professionals, and the Davis Cup followed suit in 1973.

Davis Cup Qualification

Nowadays, the competition is open to 135 nations around the world. Teams have to play against other teams in their zone to qualify for the competition. There is the Americas Zone, Europe Zone, Asia/Oceania Zone, and the Africa Zone. After the regional zone qualification rounds are completed, 24 teams are drawn into the World I Group. The teams are paired and have to play in a series of fixtures against their opponent, and the winner secures a place in the Davis Cup. The 12 winners of the qualifiers are joined by the two finalists of the previous Davis Cup and two wild card invited nations.

Davis Cup Competition Proper and Champions

16 teams play in the Davis Cup Finals, which takes place at the end of the year. Each team has up to 5 players and one captain. The teams are drawn into 4 groups of four, A, B, C, and D. The nations then have to play in a single-leg robin round against the other teams in their group. These legs consist of 3 matches in a best of 3 sets format. The teams that win the groups and finish runners-up then qualify for the knockout round. Here, the teams are paired and have to play in a single-leg best of 3 matches series, from the quarter-finals until the final.

The USA has won the most titles in the history of the Davis Cup. The team has won a total of 32 titles and finished runners-up 29 times. After them, Australia is the most successful nation, with 28 titles and finishing runners-up 20 times. France and Great Britain have both won 10 titles each, and are the top European nations in the Davis Cup. To date, Argentina is the only Latin American nation to win a Davis Cup, winning their only title in 2016.

How to bet on the Davis Cup

Outrights

Outrights are bets that you can place ahead of time and they relate to the tournament as a whole. There will be odds offered on all of the countries in the Davis Cup and you can bet on which team you think will win it. You can also place these bets during the competition, but the odds will change after each round so it is better to either place your bets before the competition starts or in one of the early rounds.

Match Winner

This is a bet on which team will win a match. For example, if Canada plays against the USA, then you can bet on Canada to win or on the USA to win. It is important to note that match winner bets are only for the winners of individual matches. You can also find bets on the series, where you can bet on a team to win the series.

Handicap of Games

If you want to bet on a team to win a match and increase the odds, you can give them a handicap. This basically means the team needs to beat the other team and win by a certain margin of games or more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFuajhD2pO0&pp=ygUXQVRQIFRvdXIgVGVubmlzIEZyYW5jY2U%3D

For example, you can bet on Australia beating France in the first match of the series with a handicap of -5.5. This means Australia needs to win and be at least 6 games clear of France. If the match ends 6-2, 6-3 then you will win because Australia is clear by 7 games. If the match ends 6-4, 6-3, then you will lose your bet as Australia are only clear by 5 games.

Game Props

There are many betting markets that relate to specific match events. These can be markets relating to aces, double faults, and even yes or no bets such as will a player win after going behind 1-0, will there be a third set in the match and many more.

Many More Bets

You will find many more tennis bets on matches in the Davis Cup. Betting on individual sets, total games, total deuces, total aces, and correct set score are just a few examples of all the bets you will have at your disposal.

How to bet on the Indian Wells Masters

According to online sportsbook news in India, the competition is a fantastic one for players to bet on. Continue reading to learn more about the various betting markets available for the ATP competition.

Match Winner

This is a bet on which player will win a match. If Novak Djokovic faces Nick Kyrgios in the Indian Wells Masters, you can bet on Djokovic to win or on Kyrgios to win.

Handicap of Games

This is a bet on a player to win a match by a margin of games. It comes at longer odds than a simple match winner bet, as the player will need to also overcome the handicap. There are also handicap bets that favour a player, in which case a certain number of games are added to the player’s score of games at the end of the match. However, the positive handicaps will shorten the player’s odds considerably.

For example, if you bet on Rafael Nadal to beat Carlos Alcarez with a handicap of -5.5 then you will need Nadal to win the match and be 6 games or more clear of his opponent. A score of 6-3, 6-4 is not enough, as Nadal will only be 5 games clear of Alcarez. If the match ends 6-2, 6-3 then Nadal will be 7 games clear and your bet will win. The rules also apply if the match goes into a third set, in which case a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to Nadal will not be enough as he will only be 5 games clear.

Total Games

In the Indian Wells Masters, matches are played to a best-of-3 sets. You can bet on how many games will be played during a match using the total games bets. To place a bet, you need to pick one of the betting lines offered and then bet on whether the match will end with over or under that number of games.

For example, if you pick a high line of 24.5, then you will need the match to end with 25 games or more. If the match is decided in two sets, then you will lose your bet as even if the game ended 7-5, 7-5 then only 24 games will be played. If the game ends 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 then you will lose your bet as well, as only 24 games have been played. A score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 will win as the match will finish with 27 games, but you need to be careful when placing really high or really low totals bets.

Game Props

Game props usually either relate to specific match statistics or to events that may or may not happen during a match. For example, you can find markets relating to deuces, aces, tie-breaks, and so on. There will also be bets on aspects of the match such as whether will there be a third set, will a player come back to win from 1-0, will a player win in straight sets, and various similar bets.

Plenty of Betting Opportunities

You will have even more bets to pick from, relating to individual sets, games, and more. Live betting is also highly popular for tennis. When a match is in play, then there will be countless bets on ongoing sets, the following game, the following 2 games, and all the other bets you can possibly hope for.
