According to earlier reports this week, Premier League clubs have broken their record for summer transfers this year. The gross summer spending exceeded £1.5 billion on Thursday. Additionally, this number will grow even more as there are still numerous rumors and deals in the air. We are certain we’ll see a couple more big transfers in the upcoming days so stay tuned for an updated list next week. We ranked the players below on the potential impact they can bring to their new club.

Casemiro to Man United Could Turn Out as the Best August Signing in the Premier League

The Red Devils signed Casemiro in a surprise transfer during the 3rd week of the Premier League, on 22 August. The Brazilian wall was a crucial part of Real Madrid’s deadly midfield trio along with Modric and Kroos. Even if he retired today at the age of 30, no one would doubt his legacy. Casemiro racked up 18 trophies during his stay in Madrid, including 5 UCL titles and 3 league titles. Some might call United’s signing of Casemiro desperate but this is a step in the right direction.

His playstyle will fit nicely in the Premier League and his experience will prove useful in United’s midfield. One player won’t fix a team but this signing is no doubt one of the best in August. We’re excited to see the Brazilian step on the pitch in United’s colors. Casemiro was signed for a transfer fee of £63.59 million. If the season is as exciting as the transfer window has been we’re in for a good run. You can follow United’s matches on 888sport.

Chelsea Plan Ahead with Marc Cucurella – Best Premier League Signings of August

The signing of Marc Cucurella on August 5 was intended as a long-term investment. Cucurella can play as a center-back and left-back but Chelsea uses him as the latter. He’s slowly but surely replacing Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso. The fight for the starting position will be between Chilwell and Cucurella. The Blues bought the defender for a fee of £58.77 million from Brighton but this price could rise in the future with add-ons.

We’ll see how Chelsea’s investment will turn out in the future. Last season he won 70% of his attempted tackles and also successfully tackled 62% of dribbles. Their latest signings aren’t included in this however so consider adding a slight bonus.

Matheus Nunes Among Wolves’ August Signings

Matheus Nunes’ transfer could go unnoticed since he didn’t join a title contender. But the signing of the 24-year-old midfielder did break Wolverhampton’s club record transfer fee. Wolves acquired Nunes for £40.50 million from Sporting on August 18. The club wasn’t playing around this summer. Their expenditures already surpassed £100 million. Wolves only needed a few points from making it into the top 7 last season but this might be possible now.

Wolverhampton now has 10 Portuguese players in their squad and the majority are regular starters. Nunes is another long-term investment and the club plans to use him as much as they can. We expect him to be played along with Neves and Moutinho. However, Neves has been linked to Man United multiple times this summer so we’ll see how this potential trio turns out. Make sure to follow Nunes and Wolves at 888sport to see their weekly progress. This could be one of the best Premier League signings in August.

Goncalo Guedes Bolsters Wolverhampton’s Attack

Guedes’ transfer is no doubt one of the best ones in the Premier League from a financial point of view. With a market value of £36 million, Wolves got him for £29.34 million. He’s the only player on this list whose transfer was lower than his market value. The 25-year-old winger is from Portugal too and will most likely be a regular starter at Wolverhampton. Guedes’ achievements include French, Spanish, and Portuguese trophies and titles.

Last season he had 11 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances with Valencia. This was also his best individual season. While Guedes plays on the left wing the most, Wolves use him as a center-forward. The club intends to keep Neto and Podence on the wings for the time being. At first glance, it looks like Wolverhampton has been spending its money wisely this summer. Their squad is a bit riddled with injuries and loans so these August signings were the best course of action for the team. Newcastle put a lot of trust into Alexander Isak

The 22-year-old signed for Newcastle on 26 August for a club record fee of £63 million. Isak is a talented striker who’s considered the future of Sweden and experts see him as the next Ibrahimović. His Newcastle contract is valid until 2028, making this signing a risky long-term investment. Isak didn’t need too much time to put on a show as he scored against Liverpool in his debut during Week 5 of the Premier League. Newcastle lost the game but the future looks promising.

Before joining Newcastle, Isak played two matches for Real Sociedad this season, also scoring a goal for his old club. He had a total of 10 goals and 3 assists in 41 appearances last season. These aren’t the greatest stats but the Swedish international has a lot of time to improve. and if he can prove himself in the Premier League, the sky is the limit for him. Even with the hefty price tag, Alexander Isak has got to be one of the best Premier League signings of August.

Antony arrives at United after an eventful summer

Antony broke the transfer record for this year when he joined United for a fee of £86.5 million. £4.3 million of this is in add-ons but this massive fee still makes the 22-year-old the most expensive signing of 2022. The deal fell through on 30 August after the Red Devils spent months chasing the Brazilian winger. Antony’s contract should keep him in Manchester until 2027 with the option for a further year. Ten Hag and Antony have a history together at Ajax so a reunion now is a headstart for the two.

Antony made his debut against an unbeaten Arsenal and made his first goal just after 35 minutes. United eventually won 3-1 and the Red Devils are now slowly but surely climbing the Premier League table. Antony’s playstyle and chemistry with Ten Hag could prove extremely beneficial for the club in the long run. This is no doubt one of the best Premier League signings of August and we’re curious to see how long United’s winning streak will last.

The Blues invest in long-term defence with Wesley Fofana

The 21-year-old centre-back was another addition to Chelsea’s already extensive list of summer signings. Fofana joined the Blues on 31 August for £72.36 million. This put his previous club, Leicester, in a comfortable financial position. Fofana also became the most expensive defender this year, and the third biggest signing overall if we’re counting the add-ons in Nunez’s contract. The French international signed a massive deal that lasts until 2029. Chelsea seemed disorganized and underperforming which led to the signing of Fofana, among others.

Do we think that Fofana’s a bit overpriced? Yes, but so are most of the players on this list. Chelsea took a risk that they knew and it will take some time to see how their decision will turn out. The defender made his debut against West Ham which ended in a very narrow 2-1 win for the Blues. Fofana put up a solid performance but nothing too crazy. Chelsea are doing better since adding the 21-year old so we mark this trade as one of the best Premier League signings of August.
