The nominees of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award will be announced on the 13th of January 2020.  The Best Supporting Actor Oscar 2020 betting odds are giving the most chance for Brad Pitt to win, but many other great actors are also in the favorites.  Brad Pitt has never won an Oscar for his acting, though he has been nominated three times. But with his cool play of stuntman Cliff Booth in Tarantino’s latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he has a big chance to finally win the award. According to the critics, he is better in the film than co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who will compete in the Best Actor category. Online gambling sites in the US are predicting his win with 2.00 odds.  But Pitt is facing competition with a line of really big names, let’s take a look at them.

Main favorites in the Best Supporting Actor Oscar 2020 betting odds

The other film of the season, Scorses’s mafia drama, The Irishman gives actually two possible winners, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. Both actors have won Oscars before but quite a long time ago. Both of them are returning to their best in this film. Pacino is playing labor leader Jimmy Hoffa in his first collaboration with Scorsese. He acts third time alongside Robert de Niro who plays the main character of hitman Frank Sheeran in the film. The filmmakers used new de-aging technical support, so we can see them in their 30s. Besides these technologies, Pacino’s usual methods helped him to perform his character so effectively. He was reading about Hoffa and watching old videos of him, even listening to his speeches during filming. On the contrary, Joe Pesci plays the mafia leader with very reserved acting, showing a different side from his previous roles. After his semi-retirement, Pesci came back powerful in this movie, reminding everyone of how good he actually is. His odds to win the Oscar is 6.00 just as his film partner, Al Pacino’s.

Can Tom Hanks win his third Oscar?

Tom Hanks has won the Best Actor Oscar in two consecutive years with Philadelphia and Forrest Gump in 1993 and 1994. Since then he has only been nominated twice, the last time in 2002 for Cast Away. But this year he might be back on top, with his performance of Mister Rogers in the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Hanks is playing America’s television icon, Fred Rogers who is changing the life of a cynical journalist who is writing about him. The film is about kindness and empathy, the character resembles very much the actor who plays him. Online sportsbooks in the US are giving 4.00 odds for Hanks to win an Oscar again.

Other real legends in the competition

One of the greatest actors, Anthony Hopkins can also win the Oscar for playing Pope Benedict on Netflix film, The Two Popes. It seems strange but Hopkins has only won one Oscar so far.  In 1992 he won it for playing Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. He has been nominated three more times since then with no luck. Now he plays a very different character, Pope Benedict, during his meeting with his successor, Pope Francis. Hopkins is very funny in his role and gives a detailed performance. But the film is likely to compete with other Netflix films like The Irishman and Marriage Story. And the streaming giant will probably give more support to them.  In the Best Supporting Actor 2020 Oscar betting odds, Hopkins is still in the favorites with 7.5 at the 22BET Sportsbook. Last but not least we have to mention Willem Dafoe, who has been nominated in the same category in the previous years but easily can be again for his role in The Lighthouse. It seems like Dafoe can be just as convincing as a caring manager of a  motel as Vincent Van Gogh.  Or now a lighthouse keeper. In his latest role, he gives another powerful performance, though the film might be a bit too strange for an Oscar. Dafoe’s odds to win are still not bad, with 7.4 at 22Bet.
