Rafa Nadal’s injured wrist is bad news for tennis fans, but it leaves plenty of room for speculation as to who will win the US Open.

Odds for Novak Djokovic to win the US Open:

Bwin - 7/5
Betfair - 5/4
Bet365 - 11/10
Boylesports - 6/5
Unibet - 13/10
With just a few days left until the United States Open Tennis Championship kicks off, it’s time to take a look at what online and mobile betting companies have to offer for tennis fans who like to gamble. And with Rafael Nadal announcing his withdrawal due to a wrist injury, things are about to get even more interesting at Flushing Meadows.

The second-ranked tennis pro and 14-time major champion suffered an injury on July 29, during practice. The following day he said he needed to wear a cast for a few weeks, announcing that he would be sitting out tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Even though there are many fresh talents out there, bookmakers are backing players like Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray. However, none of them are in the shape of their lives, so it will be difficult to tell who has the best chances of winning.

Let’s have a look at the top three names in this year’s US Open:

Novak Djokovic

The majority of online sportsbooks in the UK are going with Novak Djokovic as their number 1 option, proving that most of the time betting odds are based on reputation, rather than form. Over the past few months it has become clear that Djokovic’s mind is somewhere else, as even he admitted that he is far from being in his best form.

Djokovic got married in July, but he says he is not distracted by his new bride, or by the anticipation of the birth of his first baby later in October. However, he told reporters: “Many, many, many things are not clicking - it is more than obvious I’m not playing even close to what I’m supposed to play.”

In the third round at Cincinnati, Djokovic lost to Tommy Robredo, who is world no.18. In Toronto, he was beaten by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Of course, with Nadal out of the competition, he has one less rival to worry about.

Roger Federer

The Swiss tennis pro has very good credentials in the modern game, but has had a poor season last year, causing his odds to drop significantly. However, Federer had a positive start this year, and could be heading in the right direction.

After winning the title in Dubai and narrowly missing out in Indian Wells, Federer’s odds vary from one bookmaker to another. Many of them believe the tennis pro has no real chances of winning another Grand Slam title, especially considering that he’s 33 years old.

But if you take a closer look at his results in the US Open series over the last few weeks, things will be looking a little bit brighter. Roger Federer won in Cincinnati and was the runner-up in Toronto. Rafa has skipped both of these competitions, and will be missing this one too. This could mean that, with his most dangerous rival out of the game, the Swiss player could actually win.

Andy Murray

The 27-year-old Scottish player prefers the hard courts and has won this tournament before. However, he’s been performing poorly even when faced with low ranked rivals, after losing his coach. Now he would have to beat a few world class players to get ahead and no one really believes he is capable of pulling it off.

Furthermore, the former Wimbledon champion has been struggling to find his best form after his back surgery. Murray lost to Grigor Dimitrov and this brought his Wimbledon title defense to an end, but he’s determined to give it all he’s got at the US Open and says his new coach, Amélie Mauresmo, is encouraging him.

Murray has some nice memories at Flushing Meadows, where he won the boys’ singles title in 2004 , as well as his first Grand Slam title two years ago. Whether he manages to beat players like Djokovic or Federer remains to be seen.

The list of promising players is quite long and includes names like Stanislas Wawrinka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner, Tomas Berdych, David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo, or Nikolay Davydenko. Sports betting fans have countless options and can find some great offers online.

The only problem is that American gambling laws don’t allow US players to bet on sports via the internet; at least not in most parts of the country.
