Today, we are going to have all of the Black Mirror episodes ranked! This list is going to help you understand which episodes are an absolute must-watch, and which ones are less interesting. Keep in mind that we are deviating from the usual online reviews. Instead, we are focusing on the grand values of the show. The philosophy, the fright of likelihood, and of course, how well-put-together the whole narrative is.
One of the biggest reasons why people love to rank the episodes is due to the fact that the series is diverse in many themes. But why is this important for a gambler? Well, one reason is that you can actually bet on Netflix shows online. All you have to do is browse our list of online sportsbook sites in Canada to wager on the elements.
S – Absolute Hits – Black Mirror Episodes Ranked
- White Christmas
- Black Museum
- Shut Up and Dance
- USS Callister
- USS Callister: Into Infinity
- Plaything
These episodes will be remembered in the next five generations as timeless classics to watch. While not all of them enjoy the same popularity, generally, fans already agree they are great. The reason why we went against the IMDb rankings is due to the fact that right now, society pushes some of the episodes purely based on nostalgic aesthetics (such as San Junipero’s neon city vibes) or modern problems (such as Nosedive). Yet, the episodes we selected for the S category have a long, complex story of several twists and turns. Characters whose names we remember. And most importantly: Things we can actually fear at any point of technological advancement.
Plaything is simply brilliant with storytelling, including the now-gone interactive episode attached to it. The video-game narrative was also on point. USS Callister is the Magnum Opus of Black Mirror. While episodes such as “Shut up and Dance” and “White Christmas” were key definitions of what the title should and should not use. Finally, Black Museum is a manifestation of everything Black Mirror is. Register at 22BET Sportsbook to bet on Netflix shows!
A – The Reason Why We Watch
- Hang the DJ
- Eulogy
- The Entire History of You
- San Junipero
- Striking Vipers
- Hotel Reverie
- Hated in the Nation
As we have all of the Black Mirror episodes ranked, we must make a distinction between perfect and great, too! This category is not anything less than the S-category episodes. Simply, they are either shorter or too narratively focused. We determined these episodes based on the philosophical value of each. For example, Striking Vipers brings up a great question: Can men change their sexuality based on virtual appearance? Similarly, San Junipero also allowed us to play with the idea of letting go of our bodies, to exist in a perfect world of chosen appearances. With a strong 80s energy at that. Eulogy and Hang the DJ are simply beautiful and clever. The Entire History of You was the spark to make Black Mirror successful. Finally, we wish to mention our controversial take: Hotel Reverie. Not many enjoyed it, but it was a good reflection on many things Black Mirror.
B – Typical Episode – Black Mirror Episodes Ranked
- Playtest
- Fifteen Million Merits
- Nosedive
- Common People
- Be Right Back
- White Bear
- The National Anthem
Don’t let the tier list format fool you! B-category is still perfectly good, and is generally a masterpiece compared to some other media in the same category. However, we believe that the narrative or the idea behind these concepts was a little far-fetched. While it can happen, it does not thrive on the dangers of technology and societal trends. These are interesting narratives, with little to no worries in us that our societies might work like this one day. Playtest is the closest to being relocated to the “A” category. According to IMDb, fans loved The National Anthem and how the media manipulates our psyché. However, it feels like such could have happened already, yet it did not.
C – A One-Time Watch
- Bête Noire
- Men Against Fire
- Smithereens
- Joan Is Awful
- Beyond the Sea
- Loch Henry
- Arkangel
It’s hard to have all the Black Mirror episodes ranked with the greatest ideas. But sometimes, the execution is just not that great. These episodes are not too great. Just something about the narrative that feels a little weak. The best example is Bete Noire. It keeps the viewer hooked, and would deserve the A category just by that alone. However, the big plot twist is really just a technology humans will likely never achieve. In fact, the ending feels like a Twitter meme, instead of something that makes sense. The weakest from this batch is Arkangel, where the plot would have many opportunities for the characters to fix the problem. Yet, they simply fail to do so. At that point, it isn’t that interesting. The creators could have taken some more risks. According to Medium, Bete Noire was the worst episode ever made for the ending.
D – Bad – Black Mirror Episodes Ranked
- Crocodile
- Demon 79
- Metalhead
- The Waldo Moment
- Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too
- Mazey Day
These are the episodes that we wholeheartedly just skip. While we enjoyed Crocodile and The Waldo Moment, they simply do not fit the Black Mirror vibes. However, there is one episode everybody agrees on to be the worst: Mazey Day. According to Reddit, this episode had potential until Black Mirror decided to bring mysticism into the picture. A werewolf, really? See, the reason why we love Black Mirror is because it harnesses our fear of our own technology and societal trends. However, nobody is going to turn into a werewolf. There is a potential with that theme in technology, but this was just simply a fantasy episode. Just barely above Mazey Day, we have the episode with Miley Cyrus, which was okay, but felt like a collaboration rather than a smart storyline.
