The dispute between Borgata Casino vs Phil Ivey has escalated to a point where Ivey’s WSOP career is a thing of the past. In June, he competed in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship at Rio Las Vegas. Borgata Casino recently seized the winnings from the Championship.

Phil Ivey has been regarded as an exceptional professional poker player. Which is now taking a controversial turn after the long on-going Borgata Casino vs Phil Ivey legal battle. Last June, Ivey took part in the WSOP and played at the Rio Las Vegas. He was able to finish 8th and won a total of $124,410. After the tournament, Phil Ivey never got hold of his cash, which was directed to Borgata Casino via the US Marshals Service.

Borgata Casino vs Phil Ivey

This Borgata Casino vs Phil Ivey conflict set basis back in 2012. During a high-stakes baccarat session at the Casino, Ivey and his partner ‘Kelly’ Cheng Yin Sun, won a total of $9.6 million. It was not until much later that the Casino would find out that the duo used a method called ‘sorting edge’. This method involves spotting defects on the back of cards to gain some advantage. They couldn’t do that at online poker rooms in the USA.

After two years, the casino sued the professional poker player for an amount of $10 million, with the judge ruling in favor of the casino.

Borgata’s attempts at claiming the money back

Borgata’s lawyers tried to claim the money that Ivey owed the Casino but with little success. Ivey’s accounts were found empty and Borgata’s legal team was not able to recover the money. Therefore, in the Borgata Casino vs Phil Ivey case, the court granted access to Ivey’s assets outside of New Jersey.

The money was not able to recover until WSOP 2019. The US Marshals Services seized Ivey’s winnings in Nevada because of the court order. However, Ivey still has to pay a large bill to the casino and this was just a small cut.

Phil Ivey’s World Series of Poker Career

Ivey has been one of the legends of professional poker, all online poker news in the USA agree on that. He is also one of the richest poker players alive. However, with his latest winnings gone to Borgata, it will be nearly impossible for him to make a comeback in WSOP.
