If you are as excited as us about the next Brazilian manager, then check out our list of possible candidates, including some absolute legends.

The head coach position in Brazil is up for grabs! Straight after Brazil lost to Croatia in the 2022 World Cup, Tite resigned from the post, and Ramon Menezes was announced as the caretaker manager. Menezes has worked in a managerial position since 2015 and was working with the Brazilian U20 squad up until that point. In his 9 matches with the youth squad, he secured 7 wins with 19 goals scored for and only 4 against. He will hold the position until a new manager is announced, and media from all over the world is throwing out some big names.

Brazilian Coaches of the Past

Being the head coach of Brazil is no easy task. There are some big shoes to fill, after coaches such as Luiz Felipe Scolari, Mario Zagallo, Carlos Alberto Parreira and Dunga. Mario Zagallo was the first person to win the World Cup as both a player and manager. He featured in the 1958 and 962 World Cups alongside Pele, even scoring in the famous final of 1958. He had a few stints as manager of Brazil, and in 1970 he guided Brazil to their third World Cup title.

Carlos Alberto Parreira was not a player, but that did not stop him from guiding Brazil to World Cup victory in 1994. Dunga was a player in the Brazilian team coached by Parreira and won the World Cup in 1994. He never won it as a manager, but he won the Copa America title in 2007. Scolari, who had a humble career as a player, won the World Cup for Brazil in 2002.

Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti is among the favourites to land the coaching role at Brazil, and his record will excite fans. Though he has never been a head coach for a national team, the Italian has won trophies in 5 top European countries. These include the Serie A, Premier League, Ligue 1, La Liga and Bundesliga.

He won the Champions League in 2003 and 2007 with AC Milan and then in 2014 and 2022 with Real Madrid. Ancelotti is still the manager of Real Madrid, and it would send a shock wave if he were to go to Brazil. However, there has been a lot of speculation about him and it seems that there is a good chance Brazil will make him a proposal.

Zinedine Zidane

Where has Zidane been? The former player managed Real Madrid until 2021 and then he completely disappeared from the world of football. His career as a player was sublime, and many were sceptical about his appointment in 2016. Perhaps they thought it was too sentimental that such as player would also excel as a manager. But Zidane went and did the unthinkable.

He won 3 Champions League in a row, from 2016-18. Though he has been keeping a low profile for the past 2 years, Zidane is still highly valued by clubs around the world, and his appointment to Brazil would be legendary. Maybe then we can forgive him for scoring 2 goals against Brazil in the 1998 World Cup final, which France won.

Abel Ferreira

Ferreira is another Portuguese manager who is the current head coach of Palmeiras. He has been at the club since 2020 and won the Copa do Brazil and Copa Libertadores in his first season. He then won one more Copa Libertadores in 2021 and won the Serie A and Campeonato Paulista in 2022.

Though he is not as experienced as the other managers on this list, he is the only one who has coached in Brazil. This may give him the edge, as the Brazilian Confederation of Football will be well acquainted with him.

Jose Mourinho

Mourinho has said in the past that he wants to coach Brazil. He is one of the most prolific managers in the world, having won 8 domestic titles in 3 different countries. He broke onto the scene when he won the Champions League with Porto in 2003.

He then went to Chelsea where he won the Premier League twice before moving to Inter Milan. At Milan, he won the Serie A twice and won the Champions League once again. After that, Mourinho went to Real Madrid and won La Liga, before returning to Chelsea and winning one more Premier League. Since then, he has managed Manchester United and currently is the manager of Roma.

Critics may argue that Mourinho has not won a domestic title since 2015, but there is no denying the fact that Mourinho remains one of the best managers in the world. He has never coached at an international level before, but if he did it would mean big things for Brazil.
