Here’s a tip for any fugitives from the law out there: If you’ve got a hankering for online poker in Australia while on the lam, don’t attempt to organize a game on Facebook. Australian police nabbed Justin Grant three weeks after escaping his captors when he attempted to do just that.

While on a hospital visit in Townsville on July 15th for a self-inflicted hand wound, Grant neatly disappeared from the facility and was invisible to local law enforcement – though he kept his online presence well visible thanks to Facebook. By the 20th, national news media had picked up the story that Grant’s Facebook account was active and that he’d added 28 friends shortly after escaping.

Still, Grant was able to exist in Townsville, sending Facebook message to friends like “Ha u watch ile hav to hand myself in before they cach me.” Apparently becoming bored with the fugitive life, Grant eventually attempted to organize a poker game online with some of his buddies in Australia.

Thanks to his habitual Facebook posting, authorities soon busted Grant while he was in a Townsville McDonald’s on August 6th. Grant had been serving a five-year sentence for armed robbery.

Though we cannot recommend organizing online poker on Facebook for those evading police, there are hundreds of recommended online casinos in Australia and Australian poker rooms that are suitable for some action.
