If you like to bet on sports in the US and UK Saturday is a doubly whammy. First, you can bet on the Epsom Derby, one of the most prestigious races in the UK. Then, just a few hours later, check out the odds on the Belmont Stakes, third leg in the US Triple Crown. Spectacular. The races may be similar, but the betting prospects definitely aren’t. The odds on the Epsom Derby at Bovada have it as a runaway win, but a bet on the Belmont Stakes is a far harder wager to call. Both the Epsom Derby and the Belmont Stakes are massively famous. They are each mile and a half races for three year olds. Technically, there are some small differences. The UK race is shorter, but on turf, whilst the US action is a few metres longer and run on dirt. However perhaps the most salient difference is one of time. The UK race takes place earlier in the day. Time zones are like that. So you can watch the Epsom Derby whilst perusing the odds on the Belmont Stakes. Some make a full day of it. Relax with an afternoon’s racing the UK before continuing into their evening with the US racing. With two such superb races, why wouldn’t you? It’s a great day for a trans-Atlantic flutter. Of course, whilst the races are very similar in scope, the betting prospects are slightly different. Online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada see the Epsom Derby as Bolshoi Ballet’s to lose. The odds on the Belmont Stakes are a completely different kettle of fish.

In the UK a lot of people will bet on Bolshoi Ballet simply because it’s favorite. It gets short 2021 Epsom Derby odds of just 7/4, well clear of it’s nearest rival, High Definition, at 9/2. Of course, favorites don’t always win, but its unbeaten record this year speaks for itself. High Definition only managed a 3rd place finish last time out. So unlike the odds on the Belmont stakes, which we’ll get to in a minute, the odds on the Derby are somewhat straight forward.

The odds on the Belmont Stakes are far harder to read. The shortest price you’ll find at online betting sites in the US like Bovada is around 3/1 and two horses share that. Typically, they’d not have this issue. After the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, form would have become clear. But not this year. This year is different. This year they banned the winner of the Kentucky Derby from running at Belmont. That winner, Medina Spirit failed a race day drug test in Kentucky.

Odds On The Belmont Stakes Backed By Scandal

So, unfortunately, that scandal has tarnished the odds on the Belmont Stakes. It has distracted fans and authorities alike, overshadowing the race. NY racing officials have banned Bob Baffert from not only the Belmont Stakes but from running any horse this summer. That’s pretty harsh. Of course, someone of Bob’s experience should know better. Still, it means the third leg of the US Triple Crown will lack Medina Spirit. Leaving the race open for the Preakness Stakes’ winner, right?

Plus, Known Agenda or Rock Your World are great each-way chances at 8/1. So ignore the scandals, sit down for the Epsom Derby and stay there for the Belmont Stakes.
