  • 2020-21 men’s handball league will start next weekend in Hungary
  • Last season was cancelled, with no one winning the championship
  • Top teams Telekom Veszprem and Mol-Pick Szeged can fight for title again

The new season in the men’s handball league in Hungary will start next weekend. 14 teams will take part in the competition where the usual two teams are the favourites again. The Hungarian Handball Championship winner odds predict another victory for multiple champions Veszprem, but surely their biggest rival will fight for the title as well.

The Hungarian handball league is one of the strongest in Europe with top players featuring in the biggest teams. The participating 14 teams will play 26 rounds, then the top two teams will continue in the championship final. Telekom Veszprem is the most successful team with a record 26 league and 24 cup titles. They also play in the Champions League and regularly finish in the top four. Though the last season was cancelled in the Hungarian league, Veszprem were in 2nd place in March level on points with big rival Szeged. Experts and fans are expecting a very similar season with the two teams fighting again for the title.

Hungarian Handball Championship winner odds slightly favour Veszprem

Online sportsbooks in Hungary are offering the smallest odds, 1.53 for the victory of Telekom Veszprem. As we mentioned they are the most successful team and winner of the last 12 years with the exception of the 2017-18 season. It was one of the rare moments when they were beaten by Pick Szeged. Beside the 2018-19 Cup final where they also lost against Szeged. But the club managed to sign great new players to their already strong squad. Like Spanish World and European champion Jorge Maqueda who arrived from Szeged. His compatriot, goalkeeper Rodrigo Corrales and another European champion from Denmark, Nikolaj Markussen. So surely it will be an even more difficult task to beat them for any team.

Let’s play!

Like usual, Mol-Pick Szeged can be their main rival, whose odds to become champions are 2.375. The team has also got 3 league and 7 cup titles, with two recent ones. And lots of top players too like the goalkeeper of the Hungarian national team, Roland Mikler and his teammate, Bence Banhidi. Plus European silver medallist and former PSG player Croatian Luka Stepancic. Or Spanish World and European champion Joan Canellas. Both teams are playing in the Champions League, so their fitness and stamina can be a main factor in their rivalry.

Not much chance for other teams

Online gambling sites in Hungary are mentioning Grundfos Tatabanya as the third strongest team in the league. But even they don’t have too many chances with the odds of 34.00 to win the championship. The club was founded in 1941 and had their best period in the 1970s when they won 4 league and 2 cup titles as well. In more recent times Tatabanya finished in third place in the last five years behind the two strongest clubs. The team also plays in the second-tier European competition, in the EHF Cup where they reached the quarter-finals in the previous season. Other teams are only mentioned with huge odds in the Hungarian Handball Championship winner odds with no real chance to win the league. But they can still fight for the podium and the remaining EHF Cup qualifying places.
