Introduced by Senator Will Espero, SB 677 would legalize online gambling in Hawaii, including casino games, poker, and lottery.

Hawaii might be the fourth state - after Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware – to offer legal online gambling to its citizens. According to gambling news, Will Esperos proposed SB 677 would legalize mobile online casinos in the USA state. The bill was introduced on January 20th and it passed its first reading on the 23rd. As the bill puts “tens of thousands of Hawaii residents are estimated to participate in illegal online gambling on unregulated internet web sites.”  The purpose of SB 677 is to create consumer protections and revenue for the state.

“Tens of millions of dollars in revenues generated from online gambling are being realized by offshore operators serving Hawaii residents, but no benefits are provided to the State.”

Once approved, the Act would create the Hawaii Internet Lottery and Gaming Corporation, offering games of chance and skill, including classic casino games, poker, and lottery. Part of the revenues from online gambling in Hawaii would go towards the improvement of education and watershed protection. Click here for the Bill’s full text!
