Since the award’s inauguration in the 2017/18 season, there have been five awards and four recipients. City’s Kevin De Bruyne has a record of two awards including the one he received for breaking the individual assists record in a season. The midfielder had 20 assists in the 2018/19 season. The other recipients were Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, and the current winner Mohamed Salah. While Salah’s 13 assists were the least of any recipients of the award, he shared the Golden Boot with Son too. Kevin De Bruyne’s the Clear Favourite for the Playmaker of the Season in 2023

The odds of Kevin De Bruyne winning the award for the third time are significantly higher than any other player on this list. This isn’t that much of a surprise, after all, Manchester City are the favourites to win both the Premier League and the Champions League. They also have the favourites for the Golden Boot and the Playmaker of the Season awards. De Bruyne is arguably the best midfielder in the world right now. Despite being 31, he’s also one of the most valuable players and midfielders in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVfZHc_WXvs Last season he had only 8 assists in 30 league appearances. This time, however, it seems that the offense will mainly run through De Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder already proved this in City’s first match of the season when he assisted Erling Haaland. De Bruyne will remain an attacking midfielder but his goal-scoring duties have shifted towards providing assists. On 888sport, the midfielder’s odds to win the 2023 Playmaker of the Season award are a whopping 7/4. This makes De Bruyne’s numbers three times better than the next player on this list.

Crosses Galore - Trent Alexander-Arnold

The young Trent is the most valuable defender and right-back in the world at the moment. While his playstyle doesn’t have much in common with defence, he makes up for it on the offence. Trent and Robertson are currently the best fullback duo on the planet. Last season Trent had 12 assists, being one short of teammate Mo Salah. Klopp’s system works in a way that his fullbacks are utilized much more on attacks than those of other teams. Trent’s ability to perform precise crosses is impeccable and that’s why he’s on this list. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfTm3ElHWPU While online gambling sites in the UK all favour Kevin De Bruyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold is usually second on these lists. With odds of 8/1 he might be far behind KDB but not so much that it’s impossible to steal the award from City’s midfielder. After all, last season’s winner was a Liverpool player too. The battle of the league, Golden Boot, Playmaker of the Season, and more will be fought between City and Liverpool. Talking about awards, you might want to take a look at our betting tips for the current Premier League season.

Mohamed Salah has Nothing Left to Prove in this Category

Salah is the first player on this list who’s among the favourites for both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker of the Season awards. Having won both awards already, there’s nothing to prove for Liverpool’s star player. The Egyptian international is also the first player on this list that’s a forward. However, this isn’t that special as forwards Hazard and Kane have won the award previously as well. The funny thing is that De Bruyne’s the only non-forward who has been named the Playmaker of the Season so far.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zRSqKZNJdA Winning the Golden Boot and the Playmaker of the Season in the same year is an extremely impressive feat. And according to sites like 888sport, Salah’s chances aren’t that bad either. He has the same odds for the 2023 Premier League Playmaker of the Season award as teammate Trent. With odds of 8/1, this indicates that Liverpool’s offence will run through multiple playmakers. With the addition of Darwin Nunez, time will tell how Klopp will utilize Salah.

Jack Grealish Needs More Time if He Wants the Playmaker of the Season in 2023

The best individual season of Jackie Grealish was in 2020/21, also his last season with Aston Villa. He had 12 assists and 6 goals in 26 appearances. From a rational point of view, it’s near impossible for Grealish to become the 2023 Premier League Playmaker of the Season. And even though predictions place him high on most lists, experts know his chances are much worse than those of the others on this list. On 888sport, his odds to win the award are 12/1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr1warcmsac Another reason why Grealish has little to no chance to be the Playmaker of the Season in 2023 is his inconsistency. The winger had 3 goals and 3 assists in 26 league appearances last season. Furthermore, because of the depth of City’s squad, Grealish isn’t constantly in the starting eleven. Sure, he gets subbed on almost every match but he doesn’t play the full 90 minutes. He’s far from a bad player but he isn’t improving visibly either. We’ll see how far Manchester City and Jack Grealish go this season.

Heung-min Son is a Threat From Everywhere

Son’s numbers have been constantly improving for the past few seasons. He was the co-winner of the Golden Boot last season and also had 9 assists to go with his award. The 30-year-old plays attacking midfield, both wings, centre-forward, or as a secondary striker. So he is the full package. Because of Tottenham’s striker surplus this season, Son might have a bigger playmaker role than before. With so many attacking options, Spurs might not have to rely on his goals as much as last season. To start things off right, Son already had an assist in the first week against Southampton. Online sportsbook news in the UK indicates that Son is staying with Tottenham. He is a primary option for the club and remains one of the best forwards in the world. We predict his assists to be around 11-13 by the end of this season. But winning the Playmaker of the Season will depend on the others on this list. Most predictions for 2023 put Son in the same spot for both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker of the Season.
