Mac OS MPN Poker Client Released by Paf in Finland

Finland based operator Paf has become the first client to go live with the new Mac OS software for Microgaming’s MPN. The MPN – formerly known as the Microgaming Poker Network – has bought out this software to offer players on Apple devices to play online poker in Finland, and beyond.

On top of this, the new Mac client is compatible with all Apple devices, allowing players to take advantage of mobile casinos software and play poker wherever they are.

The head of poker at Paf, Herbert Paradis, said: “We know that our players who have Apple devices have been waiting for a downloadable client for some time, and now that we’ve joined the MPN, we are better able to meet our customers’ needs.”

The new client runs in the Adobe Air framework, and has the same functionality as the MPN’s instant play client, giving players the chance to play in all Hold’em cash games, Sit ‘n’ Go and scheduled tournaments, all from a downloadable client.

Thanks to Finnish gambling laws, Paf and competitor RAY are the only two operators licensed to run online gambling services in Finland. The country insists that the gambling industry is non-profit in Finland, and Paf themselves are controlled by the government of Aland, an island in the Baltic sea between Finland and Sweden.

The MPN also offers players a PC client, web based Flash client and an HTML5 application for mobile devices. Lydia Melton, the head of network gaming at Microgaming, commented: “Mac users are an important segment, but for years operators have been turning them away because they haven’t had dedicated software. The MPN is one of only a few networks to offer a Mac-specific client and we are excited to see the uptake from players.”

The client is expected to be taken up by other operators around the world in the near future.
