  • Germany or Spain - Who has the better odds?
  • Can either Japan or Costa Rica make it out of this group?
  • Hot takes, betting predictions and World Cup Group E

If there is a death group at this year’s World Cup, it’s Group E. Usually, a death group would consist of three top 10 teams but having Germany and Spain in the same group is pretty intimidating. Both teams finished atop their respective groups in the UEFA qualifiers. Japan has been constantly improving over the past few years and they finished second in their AFC group. Costa Rica rounds out Group E as they were the last ones to qualify for the World Cup finals through the intercontinental playoffs. Now that the stage is set let’s see some betting predictions.

Germany Starts with Good Odds As They Try To Avoid Their Mistakes from 2018

Germany has always been among the best teams in the world. Whether it’s football or any other sport, the Germans usually perform well under any circumstances. Only Brazil has won more World Cups than Germany. Out of 22 World Cup tournaments, they qualified for 20, including the one this year.

Surprisingly their worst performance was in the previous tournament, in 2018. Furthermore, Hansi Flick’s boys have been performing great recently and that makes us wonder why Germany is only the 6th favorite to win the World Cup this year. That’s right, on 20Bet Sportsbook their odds of winning the tournament are 12.01.

Additionally, Germany’s odds of winning Group E are 2.2, while their odds of advancing to the next round are 1.16. The mistakes of the 2018 tournament mustn’t be repeated. FIFA’s official rankings haven’t been updated since 31 March 2022. Back then the Germans were ranked 12th in the world but the new rankings will come out on 23 June. We predict that Germany will be somewhere between the 5th and 8th places.

How Good is Spain This Year? – World Cup Group E Betting Predictions

To put things into a better perspective, Spain and Germany are the only countries within the same group that won the World Cup in the past decade. Well, technically Spain won it in 2010 and Germany won it in 2014. Another important thing to note is that multiple national team regulars were dropped from the squad.

For example, Gerard Pique, Nacho, Iniesta, Thiago, Sergio Ramos, Iago Aspas, Diego Costa, David Silva, Isco, and many more will miss the 2022 World Cup. Whether for health or performance reasons, the Spanish team will only feature a few veterans. Don’t let this distract you from the fact that on online sportsbooks in Germany, they’re the 4th favorites to win the tournament.

Spain’s odds of winning Group E are 1.85, slightly better than Germany’s chances. Their odds to qualify are also really good with 1.11. It doesn’t matter how many World Cup Group E betting predictions you look at, Germany and Spain will be picked as the favorites to advance. Both of these teams have a great chance to go all the way to the finals. Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time that an underdog beats out one of the top teams in the world. Let’s move on to the underdogs.

Is There Any Room for Japan to Advance from Group E?

2022 will be Japan’s 7th World Cup appearance and also their 7th consecutive one. Unfortunately, they never made past the Round of 16 and the current Group E betting predictions aren’t on their side either. Their recent performances have been pretty good, except for their 3-0 loss against Tunisia. Japan is currently 23rd in FIFA rankings although they might crack the top 20 after the next updates. On 20Bet Sportsbook, their odds to win Group E are 10.07 which is nothing short of impossible at this point.

Comparatively, their odds to advance to the Round of 16 are 4.07. Japan could qualify for the next round at the 2022 World Cup but it would require a couple of bad performances from Germany and Spain. Japan and South Korea have one of the biggest rivalries in football. Check out our Group H betting predictions if you want to see the odds.

Group E Betting Predictions Regarding Costa Rica

Costa Rica shocked the world in 2014 when they beat Uruguay and Italy, and also drew with England. What’s more, this put them atop their group that year. But a lot of things can change in four years and their 2018 performance was proof of this. The question is, will anything be different this year than at the previous World Cup?

Costa Rica currently ranks 31st in the world but they will most likely receive an upgrade as well. However, their odds are significantly worse than those of the others in Group E. Betting predictions, especially by online sportsbooks in Germany, don’t see them advancing to the next round this year.

Their odds to win Group E are 19.62 or 35.02, depending on which category you look at on 20Bet Sportsbook. Despite having the worst odds from their group, their chances to qualify for the next round aren’t that bad. Bookmakers estimate their odds of advancing to be around 5.99 or 6.00.
