Niko Kovac has been sacked, but who will replace him? Image source: ifcs_media / Flickr
Following an 18-month stint in charge of Germany’s biggest football club, Niko Kovac was dismissed from his role after a 5-1 thrashing by his former club, Eintracht Frankfurt. The agreement to part ways with the Croatian has left assistant coach Hansi Flick in charge of the next game. But will he stay on? The next Bayern Munich manager betting odds show us the top-list contenders for the role. Let’s take a look.
Bayern Munich are currently without a manager. Their team needs to pick themselves up following the departure of Kovac. The Croatian had a fairly good record, winning the domestic double last season and having 45 wins out of 65 games in charge of Bayern Munich. However, his exit leaves the door open for many top-managers in the world.
BBC have reported that Chief executive officer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has stated that the decision was based on a mutual understanding with Kovac. He said:
“The performances of our team in recent weeks and the results have shown us that there was a need for action. We had an open and serious discussion with Niko this Sunday based on that and came to the mutual decision that Niko is no longer head coach of FC Bayern. We all regret this development. I would like to thank Niko Kovac on behalf of FC Bayern for his work, particularly for last season’s double win.”
Next Bayern Munich Manager Betting Odds in Favor of Mourinho
Love him or hate him, José Mourinho has been heavily linked with the Bundesliga champions. BetVictor rate the self-proclaimed “Special One” to bag the job at betting odds 2/1 (3.00). Having been out of a managerial position for almost a year now, could the Special One make a return? It’s hard to say, given Mourinho’s infamous defensive tactics. Bayern Munich may rather go for a manager whose plan is to play on the front-foot.
Hansi Flick Rated as Runner-Up to Mourinho for Head Coach
Bayern Munich’s new interim coach may still have a story to tell. Flick will be in-charge of the next couple of games for Bayern coming up. The caretaker may still be hoping to capitalize on his opportunity and prove to the board that he is up for the role. But who is Hansi Flick?
Hansi Flick was a professional player for the Reds during his playing career between 1985-1990. He won the league on four separate occasions and finished runner-up with Bayern in the European Cup. In his managerial years, Flick had various spells at Victoria Bammental and 1899 Hoffenheim, but his most promising time was as an assistant coach. Flick was part of the German national side as an assistant to Joachim Löw, winning the 2014 World Cup. BetVictor rate Hansi Flick at 5/1 (6.00) to land the job, which may yet be the case.
Could Erik Ten Hag Beat Off All Competitors for Bayern Role?
Last but not least, Erik Ten Hag is rated highly among BetVictor to secure the position. The Ajax head-coach did wonders last season with the Dutch team, taking them to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Along the way, they knocked out the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus.
BetVictor’s next Bayern Munich manager betting odds see Erik Ten Hag rated at 4/1 (5.00). Interestingly, Sky Sports in Germany have reported that contact has already been made with the Dutchman. Could we see him at the Allianz Arena? According to online sportsbook news in Germany, the Ajax coach will only join from next season.
