Those who regularly take advantage of UK gambling laws to bet on motorsport at Bet365 will have noticed. The World Champion is back. For a while the odds on Lewis Hamilton racing at all were touch-and-go. Mercedes didn’t want to pay as much as he was asking for, and there were rumors of some stringent conditions. Naturally Toto Wolff has dismissed these stories, but fans won’t believe him any more than they think changing qualifying will make F1 more interesting.

There’s obviously something wrong. Despite claiming audience numbers are growing the bosses of F1 have decided to try something new. They want to change qualifying again. It’s their default strategy to shake things up, and without fail it never actually works. Do not expect any difference this time. Replacing the three-phase qualifying system with a sprint race won’t actually change the results per se. The odds on Lewis Hamilton will still rank shortest each and every race. Fans can see this coming. The bosses of F1 sadly believe that they need to do something, this is something, so they must do this. The fact it’s unoriginal, ineffective, and just rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic doesn’t occur to them. They ignore the short odds on Lewis Hamilton at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365. Mercedes dominance is not, they feel, the problem. This is probably because they can’t do anything about it except distract people with new formats.

F1 Qualifying Changes Simply Cosmetic

They propose that three races this year trial the new qualification format. In a twenty-three race season that’s not overly onerous. However, it will be one of those things they try, regret, and then pretend they’ve never even heard of. We’ve seen it before. When they realize it just underlines the major problem with the sport, they’ll abandon it. The odds on Lewis Hamilton will remain the sport’s biggest handicap. You can always, but always, bet on Mercedes winning. It grows dull.

Sure, you can bet on Ferrari or take up the odds on Red Bull, but they’ll never match the odds on Lewis Hamilton. He’s head and shoulders above the rest. Just ask those who regularly bet on sports in the UK. Of course, there are those who just think he has the best car. They may be right. We will find out just as soon as he leaves the team. Something likely to happen at the end of this season. Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes only signed a one year deal. So 2022 could be interesting.

Toto Wolff has dismissed claims that Lewis insisted on a share of the profits and veto rights over his teammate. Which probably means they’re true. Toto Wolff would have us believe the team just made an error with George Russell’s tires. So you can’t trust what he says. Mercedes know that whilst the odds on Lewis Hamilton winning another season are short, he’s not essential. He’s a great brand, with name recognition, but Mercedes will win regardless of who is behind the wheel.
F1 Constructors Championship Odds
  • Williams – 1500/1
  • Alfa Romeo – 1000/1
  • Haas – 1000/1
  • Alpha Tauri  - 500/1
  • McLaren – 100/1
  • Alpine – 80/1
  • Aston Martin – 66/1
  • Ferrari – 14/1
  • Red Bull – 7/2
  • Mercedes – 1/6
So, the chances of Lewis staying with Mercedes beyond this season are short. He wants too much for a skillset Mercedes can replace elsewhere. You can just bet on Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc being equally quick. Even Bottas can win races in that car. Thus, we find F1 in another holding pattern, awaiting developments that could actually change the sport, but this year online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365 will still be offering short odds on Lewis Hamilton and lengthy ones on everyone else.
