Does ODI Defeat Mean You Can’t Bet On India In The Tests?

The third ODI against England ended in horrific defeat but does that mean the Indian Test side will face the same fate or will the massively warm weather the UK is suffering play to the strengths of a side long on talent and short on plaudits? Will the hosts be as dominant in the five day game as they were in that ODI at Headingley or will they wilt under the blazing bowling of the visitors? Should you bet on India at BetrallyIndia or back the England side again? We take a look.

  • Can India bounce back from their ODI loss to win a Test series?
  • Will England pile on the pressure at Edgbaston next week?
  • Should you bet on India at 5/2 to win the series in England?
  • Are the Evens offered on the home side just a little too short?

It had been hailed as a rehearsal for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the two best one day sides meeting each other for a three match series that began at Trent Bridge and electrified the crowd with a surprise for the hosts, England, restricted to just 268 and losing by 8 wickets. Few had bet on India to be as effective and whilst Joe Root et al caught up in the second it was with an 86 run victory that was far from reassuring for fans. With the series all square the last ODI at Headingley, then, was a decider.

You could have bet on India to give a good account of themselves and they did, but unfortunately for the visitors the home side were on top form with David Willey and Adil Rashid both taking three wickets in what became a bit of a rout. Those apt to bet on sports in India might have felt leaving England chasing just 257 was asking for trouble, but Joe Root getting a century and Eoin Morgan a handy 88 demonstrated the visitors total could have been far higher, and they’d still have lost the game.

Should You Bet On India To Win The Test Series?

Psychologically then the England side go into the five Test series against India with a bit of an advantage above and beyond playing in front of their home crowd, however as the nation swelters under what it considers a heatwave, or what you can just bet on India thinking is quite mild weather, there’s a good chance we’ll see the longer game far more of a challenge for England. Rashid could be the best spinner they’ve ever had, but he’s a one day player and his Test team recall may yet fall flat.

Much is made of the differences between Tests and white ball cricket, particularly in terms of fielding practicalities, and when the teams face off at Edgbaston next week for the first match the chances are players like Rashid and Yadav will, despite their skill, take a back seat to the likes of Ravis, Ashwin, and Jadeja, and those who will take advantage of Indian gambling laws to hit up BetRallyIndia and bet on India to win should take note, whomever England select, this is going to be no picnic in the park.

  • Summer – 2018 – England
  • India – 7/4
  • England – 3/5

BetRallyIndia give the visitors 5/2 to snatch a win in the first Test against England with the home side getting a slightly overly generous Evens to achieve the same. Given that first ODI score it seems a tempting trap for the thoughtless gambler, and indeed the first game could well descend into a draw which at 3/1 is probably a better wager. Sure you can bet on India to pull off another surprise win against the odds, but with climate change wreaking havoc neither side managing to win it seems sound.

Of course you could always bet on India to win the series if not the first game, although the odds on them doing that at sites like BetRallyIndia, one of the best online betting sites in India for those with access to a  VPN, are hovering at 7/4 which appears quite a tasty punt until you notice England are getting odds as low as 3/5 to send the visitors packing. Naturally Virat Kohli and co will be doing their damnedest to stop this happening, but the way Root’s men have been playing, that may not be enough.
