Despite boasting of a “healthy audience” peaking at some 200,000 registered users, Amuso.com, a provider of online trivia and Internet bingo in Sweden, will be voluntarily liquidated. Company officials blamed “technical and software issues” having to do with collection and payment.

Amuso’s primary investor was Mangrove Capital Partners, which seeded the startup with $1.5 million in August 2007; Mangrove, however, will no longer be funding Amuso.

Things were looking up for Amuso in March, as the company signed an agreement with a provider of online gambling in Sweden known as Cashball and its parent company Nyx Interactive to provide an integrated suite of trivia and Internet gambling in Sweden. Though Amuso even managed to land more investment money based on this contract, these financiers have also backed out from an agreement with the software company.
The website will remain up through the end of September for players to cash in on any remaining money still in their accounts, and Nyx Interactive will be handling any customer inquiries beginning in October. All Amuso staff have been laid off. Nyx Interactive representatives have stated the company’s interest in a few pieces of Amuso intellectual property and Amuso did own contracts with some nice names, including “The Weakest Link.”
Cashball operates the second-largest site for Internet bingo in Sweden and is licensed to provide online gaming in that country together with the beneficiary company Folkspel; Cashball’s land-based lottery draws have been broadcast on Swedish national TV since 1991.
