Aquilino Pimentel III, Philippines Senator and chairman of the senate committee on games and amusement, plans to launch an investigation of foreign based online casinos in Philippines. The Senator explained at a news conference that its always wise to investigate wealthy companies and individuals since its almost guaranteed that they’ve done something illegal.
Various media sources claim that Pimentel is particularly interested to find out whether all online gambling stations in Metro Manila and other cities are properly licensed under Philippine gambling laws.
He said in a recent statement: “There is a need to check not only the legality of these new forms of gambling operated around the country, but their effects on law and order.”
The Senator said the Senate will additionally review the laws, which govern the operation of casinos and relationships of private casinos with various gaming bodies including the Philippine Gaming Corporation or PAGCOR.
According to the Senator, PAGCOR officials and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), will also be summoned by his committee to provide full brief on the current state of gambling regulation in the Asian country.
The senator also told Philippines gambling news: “At the same time, the Senate inquiry intends to look into gambling’s adverse effects on the local populace, especially the youth. It cannot be discounted that rivalries between big time operators of different gambling activities can give rise to a deterioration of law and order.
Both land-based and online casinos are highly popular with the Philippine citizens, however lack of proper enforcement of legal operations creates a wide playing field for organized crime controlled gambling establishments.
