The two sisters may have faced each other for the last time at a major tournament

Yesterday’s match was not a usual encounter for the sisters that have each won the grass-court Grand Slam five times. “It definitely doesn’t get easier,” said Serena Williams for her match against her elder sister. “But today I was out there, and I thought: ‘Wow. I’m 33, and she just turned 35. I don’t know how many more moments like this we’ll have.’ ”

She added that she does not think of quitting playing tennis yet but she could not imagine playing against the former number one in the world, Venus, again on the Centre Court. It passed fifteen years from their first match on Wimbledon where Venus celebrated a victory against her younger sister and won later the Grand Slam for the first time in her career. “I just wanted to take the moment in,” stressed Serena. “We dreamed of these moments when we were 8 years old”. She did not forget to mention in front of the media that Venus Williams was her role model the one that she copied and used for a measuring stick of success.

Venus was the first professional tennis player in the family and the one that made the beginning of “the Williams era” in world’s tennis. She was also the first one that won Wimbledon fifteen years ago. However, Serena succeeded to overcome her career achievements by collecting incredible 20 Grand Slam singles titles. This total of Grand Slam singles titles is the third on the all-time list behind Margaret Court (24) and Steffi Graf (22 titles), and second in the Open Era, only behind Graf, reports gambling news.

After the match Venus was asked if they ever thought that Serena would reach 20 Grand Slam titles, responding that as youngsters they didn’t think about any limits. “When you’re a kid, you don’t think about limits. You dream. That’s how it’s happening now. Dreams are coming true” said Venus. This was a very emotional moment in the interview considering that Venus has has been struggling for the past few years and was diagnosed with an energy-sapping autoimmune disease in 2011, three years after her last Wimbledon title.

A short review of the match

Wimbledon 2015
Serena disposed of her sister in relatively easy two sets

After the Wimbledon final in 2009 Venus and Serena Williams didn’t have the opportunity to play on a Grand Slam tournament in the past six years. Venus won their last encounter last year in Montreal, and showed high class performances on Wimbledon this year. However not many tennis fans that bet on sports in the EU, gave some considerable chances to the elder sister for a win against Serena.

Venus showed strong resistance to the aggressive game by Venus in the beginning of the match coming to level at 2-2 in the first and taking a 3-2 lead on serve in the second set. However, that was all that she could do against the perfect game by Serena. The younger sister showed a confident play during the whole match, dominating in key aspects of the game such as the service, the return and the winners. The statistics of the match says it all. Serena dropped only five points on serve in the second set, and hit 22 winners against the six hit by her sister. She ended the match with 63 percent success of her second-serve points and won 67 percent on her sister’s second serve, ending the match with a break point.

There are three more obstacles for Serena till the 21st Grand Slam title in her Career. In the next phase she will face the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka who is still waiting for her first semi final on the grass-courts tournament in Wimbledon. Their match is scheduled for today on the Center Court.
