Shane Doherty Named Head of Paddy Powers Online Channels

Shane Doherty has beennamed to lead operations at PaddyPower.com. His new position as the head of the Irish online bookmakers will make him responsible for the growth of the company’s profitability in the e-gaming and sportsbook channels.

After joining the team at Paddy Power only eight months ago, Shane Doherty has found himself with quite a nice promotion in the pipeline.

The role for the head of one of the most popular online sportsbooks in Ireland has been vacant since May 2013, when former boss Christopher Coyne transferred to lead the competitive development team at Paddy Power.

Doherty had been brought on board as the online Irish bookmaker’s head of finance, after having worked at the Irish telecom company Eircom, and will now work as the leader of operations for the company’s online division.

Paddy Power began life as a high-street bookmaker when three Irish bookies joined forces back in the 1980s. However, once the Irish gambling laws legalized internet gaming in 2003, Paddy Power launched PaddyPower.com in the early 2000s.

Now, they have one of Ireland’s most popular online gambling sites, with a number of specialized areas covering online casinos, poker rooms, bingo and more.

Recently, the Irish online bookmakers have also launched iPhone apps to tap into the mobile betting arena.

Since Paddy Power is a household name in the online gambling and sports betting world, we can expect to hear more from Shane Doherty in the future.
