Slovenia’s state sports lottery has signed a partnership with Inspired Gaming to offer a new betting site before the World Cup.

With only one month left before the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Slovenia’s state sports lottery (Športna Loterija) has launched the first licensed online sportsbook in Slovenia.

Because Slovenian gambling laws only refer to land-based operations, there were no online betting site operators in the country until now and players only had access to foreign-based web services. But the football championship hosted by Brazil seemed like the perfect opportunity for Športna Loterija to launch its new product on the local gambling market.

The website is already up and running and the World Cup is set to begin on June 12. Players are more than welcome to test it out, as Inspired Gaming made sure to offer plenty of wagering options.

Thousands of betting opportunities

There are seven sports to choose from: horses, greyhounds, football, motor racing, speedway, tennis and cycling, all localized for the Slovenian betting market. The events will also be streamed on the website every three minutes and Slovenian gamblers can choose from around 3,000 betting events every day.

“Many of our players are sports fans & are already familiar with sports betting so they will welcome the increased volume of betting entertainment on the website & the range of bet markets available,” Športna Loterija director Primož Pöschl told reporters.
