The hottest online poker star in recent months is a player who goes by the online name “Isildur1”. His real life identity is not known, but it is clear that he is young, maybe around 20 years old, and that he is from Sweden. Swedish gambling laws require players to pay heavy taxes on winnings, which is very likely the main factor driving Isildur1’s ongoing secrecy.

Starting early last week, rumors began circulating that Isildur1 has picked up a sponsorship from a major online poker site. The news originally came from Sohello “BankTheMan” Shah, a blogger who is active in the Swedish poker room scene. A recent article states that a Swedish onlne poker pro, 20 years of age, who became active in 2009 and has quickly risen to the top of the global poker scene, has signed a sponsorship agreement with a major internet poker site. Shah says that the news is not yet official so he is naming neither the player nor the site, but it seems very clear that he is talking of Isildur1.

It is already being speculated that the site is Full Tilt Poker. Back in November 2009, Isildur1 and poker pro Patrik Antonius set a world record by playing for the largest jackpot in online poker history, with Antonius taking a pot worth over $1.35 million. This was just Isildur1 is known as being a very aggressive player, and during his short career has lost nearly as much as he has won.

Many people in the online poker world suspect that Isildur1’s true identity is a Swede by the name of Viktor Blom, who arrived on the high-stakes scene at online poker sites in Sweden bringing with him a hyper-aggressive playing style that reminded everyone of Isildur1. Blom, however, publically denies all claims. “I am not the one you are looking for,” he says. “Keep searching.”
