Talent and future potential are two of the most important attributes top clubs look for in a player. By breeding up an unproven talent, clubs go through lots of risks. There are many cases of young players who had talent but due to injury setbacks, they were unable to fulfil their future potential. Raw talent and potential are mostly valued by some of the smaller clubs in the games. Due to the money-driven business of the game, most of the smaller clubs use their young players to obtain revenue for the team. While the youth academies of various clubs produce lots of talent, only the best and the brightest manage to make it to the big stage. The likes of Theo Walcott and Jermaine Defoe are among list of previous young players who were valued at expensive rates by their parent clubs.

Javier Saviola at his peak was one of the most prolific strikers known in world football. His career started at the Argentinian club, River Plate. His performances for the Argentinian giants caught the eye of Spanish club, Barcelona. He was signed for a fee considered to be around the region of GBP 25 million according to gambling news. Luke Shaw is among the latest youngsters to command a large transfer tag in football. In the summer of 2014, Southampton Football Club sold Shaw to Manchester United for GBP 27 million. At just 18, the English full back agreed a four year deal with the Red Devils.
