William Hill, UK’s largest bookmaker, opens Tech City development centre to respond to the constantly evolving online gambling sector.

The primary aim after opening the new center will be to attract more experts with transferable skills, so that the online division of the company will be strengthened. William Hill wants to expand its portfolio of online and mobile services, and facilitate the expected flow of more players.

Andy Lee, managing director at William Hill, commented: “It’s obvious that technology is becoming increasingly important to us. It is no longer acceptable for us to react to changes in the market.” In addition, the current UK gambling laws doesn’t prevent any players to enjoy online gaming, so people have been taking full advantage of the market.

Finbarr Joy, chief technology officer in the company, added: “No one knows what’s going to happen. William Hill will probably be challenged in the next few years by new devices and applications such as wearable technology.”

Tech City introduces fresh talent into the company

William Hill’s online sportsbooks app has been downloaded by more than 1.3 million iOS users, generating GBP 23 million in turnover every week. Therefore the company puts the highest priority on its mobile development. This is how Tech City fits into the company’s future plans.

Lee explains further: “We did a lot of research, we recognized a lot of places, but we believed the talent pool here was at a level we want to be at.” He added that currently the new office has 20 employees and 20 more will be recruited in the future.
