Currently, there are no Turkish online casinos and no mobile casinos either. Even though gambling on online sites is illegal in Turkey, Turks with the inclination to gamble on the go must use foreign mobile casinos, and do so mostly in foreign languages. Mobile penetration in Turkey is relatively high (nominally at 90%), but has decreased slightly since 2011 from 93%. Turkcell covers most of the market at 51.3%, with Vodafone coming in at second place at 28.5% and Avea in third place at 20.2%. Turkey has up to 10 mobile phone providers in total, although the others have significantly lower level of subscribers than the big three. Smartphone penetration in Turkey is still low at 20%, but this figure has doubled since 2010. Those who do own smartphone can access mobile casinos located abroad, but these will likely be in a foreign language. Unless Turkey changes its stance on gambling it’s unlikely that Turkish mobile casinos will be popping up in the near future.
