PokerStars Fired Executives to Get New Jersey Online Gambling License

PokerStars fired executives after the brand’s new owner, Amaya Gaming, was ordered to do so by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE). 

As US gambling news reported, PokerStars and Full Tilt were licensed earlier this month to operate online casinos in the state of New Jersey. However, it has been revealed in a report by the DGE that the brands’ parent company Rational Group was only granted the licenses after Amaya agreed to fire four senior executives.

In the report, the state regulator requested that Amaya “separate from employment on or before January 30, 2016, four individuals identified by the Division as having failed to establish the requisite good character, honesty and integrity required by the [New Jersey Casino Control] Act due to their involvement in the business activities of the PokerStars Entities between the enactment of UIGEA and Black Friday”.

The four PokerStars fired executives were not named in the report, but have been identified as: Michael Hazel, Stars former CFO; Israel Rosenthal, director of operations for Rational Group; Charles Fabian, former head of games system development at Full Tilt; and Serge Bourenkov, software manager.

In accordance with US gambling laws, Amaya has agreed to inform the DGE if any of PokerStars fired executives attempt to “influence, suggest or communicate with any employee of Amaya” regarding the firm’s activities.

The fate of PokerStars fired executives is similar to that of former owners Isai and Mark Scheinberg. Following its USD 4.9 billion acquisition of Rational Group, Amaya stated that it was “irrevocably and totally extinguishing the ownership interest” of the Scheinbergs, and that they and other corrupt executives “will have no further involvement in the operation or management of their former companies.”
