Gambling in Croatia
Gambling, both offline and online, is fully legal in Croatia, though it is restricted by a number of different government regulations. Poker and all other sorts of table games are legal, but they are allowed only in casinos. All casino gambling, as well as the state lottery and keno games, bingo, and sports gaming are overseen by the state organization Hrvatska Lutrija.
Croatia was among the first Eastern Bloc nations to legalize and regulate gambling back in the 1960s, though for decades this only meant betting on pre-selected football matches. Since they gained independence in 1991 the gambling industry has been steadily growing, especially in the area of "tourist gambling", which sees large casinos associated with modern hotels, especially in the coastal areas.
Online Gambling in Croatia
Online gambling in Croatia is governed by the Ordinance on Interactive Online Casino Gaming, effective since July 2010. Internet gambling is legal for all Croatians of 18 and older. State-run Hrvatska Lutrija, and Hattrick’s local subsidary Prva Sportska Kladionica (i.e. First Sportsbook) both offer online gaming, including lottery, sports betting, horse and dog races, keno and bingo games.
Hrvatska Lutrija has recently partnered with Intralot Interactive and Microgaming to offer online casino gambling.
