Even though the official opening of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is only on Friday, the women’s football tournament will already start tomorrow. 12 teams will compete for the gold medal including the reigning world champions, the United States. Who is also the biggest favorite to win the title according to the 2020 Olympics Women’s football odds.

This will be the 7th time that the best women football teams will play for the Olympic title after the Olympic debut of the sport in 1996. Since then the American team has won the gold four times, while Norway and Germany have one title. The German team is the defending champion but it couldn’t qualify for the tournament this time. Which makes the US team the biggest favorite again. They will start the competition in the group stage against Sweden, Australia and New Zealand. The first two teams from all three groups will advance to the knockout stage along with the best two third-placed teams. The final is held on the 6th of August at the National Stadium in Tokyo. While the rest of the matches will be held in six further locations.

2020 Olympics Women’s football odds favor the world champions

The United States women’s football team is the most successful team in the sport’s history with four Olympic and four World Cup titles. Even though they only reached the quarter-final in the previous Olympics in Rio, they are the top favorite to win this time. Online sportsbooks in the US offer the odds of -180.00 for their victory. Which is not surprising after Vlatko Andonovski’s team won the 2019 World Cup. They are also unbeaten for 44 games and leading the world ranking. But as we could see at the Euro 2020 tournament, even the biggest favorites can stumble sometimes.

The US team will start the Olympic tournament tomorrow against Sweden, who knocked them out five years ago. So Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and the rest of the team will surely aim to take revenge. Their odds to win the game is -250.00 in the 2020 Olympics Women’s football odds. But Sweden won’t be an easy opponent as the team finished as a runner-up in Rio. They have experienced and talented young players in the squad. Like goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl, Real Madrid midfielder Kosovare Asllani. Or forward Stina Blackstenius who scored 11 goals in 12 appearances for her club in Sweden. Now their odds to win the gold medal is +1200.

The Dutch and British teams are also in the favorites

The Netherlands are the reigning European champions and finalists of the last World Cup. They lost against the US there 2-0. But Sarina Wiegman’s team might try again to defeat their rivals in the Olympic final. They certainly have great players to help to achieve it. Like Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema. Or Lieke Martens who won the Champions League with Barcelona this season. The Dutch team hasn’t even reached the last four in the Olympics yet, now they can certainly do that. While their odds to win the gold is +600.

Online gambling sites in the US also mention Great Britain in the biggest favorites with the odds of +800.00. This will be only the second time that a united British team will participate in the tournament. We can also find top talents in the team like Fran Kirby, Steph Houghton or Kim Little. But the squad only played one game together which might cause some issues. While the hosts, Japan will get the advantage of playing at home even without fans. They already got a silver from the 2012 Olympics and a World Cup title from 2011. In the last few years Japan hasn’t achieved similar results. Still, they can have a good run and surprise everyone. Their odds to win the tournament is +1400.00 on BetOnline.
