2021 Critics Choice Best International Film Odds Favor Independent Drama Minari to Win

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards is held next weekend, on the 7th of March. David Fincher’s latest film, Mank leads the nominations with 12. But the 2021 Critics Choice Best International Film odds will have another film with several nominations. Minari which is the top favorite to win the category. 

The 2021 Critics Choice Awards will honor the finest achievements of the 2020 filmmaking. Just like the other awards, there are several different categories for both film and television. One of the most interesting one is the Best International Film category where films from around the world can win and get some popularity. But sometimes the winners of this category can also win the Best Picture one here or even at the Oscars. Like it happened last year with Parasite which won first at the Critics Choice and collected the Best Picture Oscar after for many people’s surprise. We might see similar things this year with Minari which received 10 nominations in this Awards, second only to Mank.

Online sportsbooks in the US highly favor the victory of independent drama, Minari which has the odds of 1.33 to win. The American film directed by Lee Isaac Chung tells the story of a South Korean family who emigrated to the US and found work in rural America in the 1980s. The film has already won some great awards like the US Dramatic Grand Jury Prize in last year’s Sundance Festival. It has also been nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Golden Globe and in the Best Feature category in the Independent Spirit Awards.

Let’s see another nominee, The Life Ahead which has the odds of 6.50 according to the 2021 Critics Choice Best International Film odds. The Italian drama which is also a Netflix production is the adaptation of the book with the same name. It stars Sophia Loren, who plays a former prostitute who takes care of other working women’s children. She met a Senegalese street kid and tried to help him to find his way. The the actress’ son, Edoardo Ponti directed the film which has already won the San Diego Film Critics Society Awards.

We can also find a Guatemalan film called La Llorona in the nominees with the odds of 8.00. The supernatural horror drama is about the ex dictator of the country who is facing a trial for the genocide of native Mayans. The dictator is convicted then cleared by the high court. Which starts mass protests and several strange things happening with his family. The film which debuted in the 2019 Venice Film Festival. And it is also in the shortlist of the Best International Feature Film category of the 93rd Academy Awards.

The documentary film shows the work of journalists who uncovered public healthcare fraud and corruption in the country. It is a serious topic which already received the Best Documentary award in several other film awards.
