The 2021 Cannes Film Festival will take place between the 6th and 17th of July after its postponement from the original date in May. But at least we have more time to get to know the favorites according to the 2021 Golden Palm winner odds. The Cannes Film Festival is always a special event in the film industry which always introduces new films of all genres to the audience. It is one of the three big European film festivals beside the Venice and Berlin Film Festivals. But probably it is the most famous due to its beautiful location at the Cote d’Azur. This year the festival has been postponed from its normal date to July, but at least it will go ahead. American director and screenwriter Spike Lee will be the head of the jury which decides the winner of the Palme d’Or. While Jodie Foster will receive an honorary award. 24 films will compete for the main award this year again including films which were scheduled to premiere in last year’s event. Now, after a year’s delay, finally we can see all of them. Let’s see the main favorites.
2021 Golden Palm winner odds mention Annette as top favorite
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will open with the top favorite of online sportsbooks in France, which has the odds of 3.74 to win the Palme d’Or. Leos Carax’s musical called Annette. It tells the story of a comedian and his world famous soprano wife, who had a glamorous life. Until the arrival of their daughter, Annette, who is born with a special gift. Who won the Golden Bear in the 2017 Berlin Film Festival with On Body and Soul. Now her new work, The Story of My Wife is in the competition with the odds of 6.00 to get the award. The film is the adaptation of the same-titled novel by Hungarian writer Milan Fust. The romantic drama is about a sea captain who marries the first woman who enters a cafe following a bet. Their marriage will be full of emotions from jealousy to deep love. The international cast stars Lea Seydoux and Gijs Naber in the main roles.
Wes Anderson’s and Paul Verhoeven’s latest films are also competing
Online gambling sites in France also mention a former winner, Thai Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s film called Memoria in the favorites. Tilda Swinton plays a Scottish woman who travels to Columbia where she starts to notice strange sounds. It is the English-language debut of the 2010 winner who has the odds of 8.50 to win again. One of the most anticipated films of the festival is Sean Penn’s new film, Flag Day but it isn’t the bookmakers’ favorite. Even though Penn plays in the thriller along with his son and daughter.
Neither is Paul Verhoeven’s drama, Benedeatta, which is about a 17th century nun who fell in love with another woman. Both have the odds of 19.00 to win this year’s Palme d’Or. While Wes Anderson’s star-studded film, The French Dispatch has much better chances. The American comedy-drama tells different stories about a French bureau of a fictional Kansas newspaper. Its cast is really amazing with Benicio del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Bill Murray. The film has the odds of 11.00 on 22Bet to get the Golden Palm.
