  • This time Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep and Iga Swiatek are the top favorites

The 2021 WTA Mutia Madrid Open started yesterday with the first round games and will reach the final next Sunday, 9th of May. Several top players are taking part in the WTA 1000 event. Including world No1 Ashleigh Barty and 2021 Australian Open winner Naomi Osaka. Both of them are mentioned as top favorites in the 2021 WTA Madrid winner odds, just like a surprise player.

The best men and women tennis players have gathered this week in Madrid to compete in the joint prestigious tournament. In the women’s field we can find six top 10 players including world No1 Ashleigh Barty and world No2 Naomi Osaka. The event is played on red clay courts and offers a great opportunity to prepare for the French Open. Three of the former winners of the tournament will play this year as well. 3-time winner Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep who got two victories and the winner of the last event in 2019, Kiki Bertens. Neither of them will have an easy job now to win again, but surely will try to do so. Let’s see their chances and other favorites who can win the trophy this time.

Simona Halep won the Madrid Open in 2016 and 2017 and also played in the 2019 final which makes her the biggest favorite to win again. Online sportsbooks in Spain offer the odds of 5.00 for her victory. The 2018 French Open winner reached the quarter-finals in this year’s Australian Open where Serena Williams stopped her. She was struggling with a shoulder injury but seems to be back in form after getting to the semi-finals in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix last week.

Fans couldn’t see too much this season from the 2020 Roland Garros winner Iga Swiatek, who will make her tournament debut now. Still she is mentioned as a top favorite in the 2021 WTA Madrid winner odds as well. The Polish player won the Adelaide International back in February and reached the fourth round in the Australian Open. Her odds of 5.00 might be a bit too optimistic though as she doesn’t seem to be in her best form. And the court in Madrid is different to the one in Paris, where Swiatek achieved her huge success.

World ranking leaders are the top seeds of the event

Ashleigh Barty is the top seed of the Madrid Open, even though she doesn’t really like this surface. The world No1 still won the 2019 Roland Garros, so she can’t be that bad on clay. And her form is not bad either after already winning the Yarra Valley Classic, the Miami Open and the Stuttgart Open so far. Her best result here is getting to the quarter-final in 2019. But she has the odds of 6.00 to actually win now.

Her big rival, Naomi Osaka also reached the quarter-final in the 2019 Madrid Open. She will return to the WTA Tour on this event after a small break. The Japanese star won her fourth Grand Slam title in the 2021 Australian Open and reached the quarter-finals of the Miami Open. Where unexpectedly Greek Maria Sakkari defeated her. The two players can meet again in the third round if both of them will get there. Anyway, online gambling sites in Spain offer the odds of 8.50 for Osaka’s final victory. While the three-time former Madrid Open winner Petra Kvitova has the odds of 10.00 on 22Bet. She won the Qatar Open this March and reached the quarter-final in Stuttgart. But the world No12 will need a better performance to win now.
