  • 2021 Emilia-Romagna Open is held in Parma this week, 16-22 May
  • This is the first edition of the event which is part of the 2021 WTA Tour
  • Serena Williams is the top favorite ahead of Coco Gauff and Daria Kasatkina
The WTA Tour stays in Italy this week thanks to the inaugural Emilia-Romagna Open. The women’s tennis tournament is held in Parma between the 16th and 22nd of May. Serena Williams and her sister, Venus will also take part in the event. Where the world No8 is the top favorite according to the 2021 WTA Parma odds.  The first Emilia-Romagna Open is held just a week after the Italian Open, offering another opportunity for Serena Williams to play ahead of the Roland Garros. The American star had an early exit in Rome last week, where Polish Iga Swiatek won at the end. Now Williams can try to win the first edition of this tournament, which is part of the WTA Tour. But of course, other top-form players will try to do the same. Like Croatian Petra Martic, fellow American Coco Gauff or Russian Daria Kasatkina. But following the withdrawal of world No6 Bianca Andreescu, the younger Williams sister is the top seed of the tournament.

2021 WTA Parma odds favor Serena to win

The American star made her first appearance since the Australian Open last week in Rome. She lost there in the second round against the 2020 French Open semi-finalist Nadia Podoroska. Following her early exit, she decided to take part in this event where she is the top favorite now. Online sportsbooks in Italy offer the odds of 5.50 for her victory. Serena is chasing her 24th Grand Slam title which would equal the record of Margaret Court. Her next chance to get it will be the 2021 French Open where she has won three times so far. But it’s a big question if her form is good enough to do that. Anyway, this event can be a great opportunity to prepare.

Just like for her countrywoman, Coco Gauff, who reached the semi-finals in Rome last week after defeating Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka on her route. The young American also got to the quarter-finals in Charleston last month. Gauff has one WTA Tour win so far which she got in 2019 at the age of only 15. She is one of the biggest talents of the sport who will start against Estonian Kaia Kanepi in the first round. Her odds to win the trophy here is 7.10 in the 2021 WTA Parma odds.

Other favorites include Kasatkina and Martic

Daria Kasatkina is already through to the second round of the open. She will next meet the winner of the All-American tie between Catherine McNally and Sloane Stephens. The latter is favored to win that match and play against the Russian fourth seed. Stephens reached the final of the 2018 French Open and won’t be an easy opponent. But Kasatkina is in great form this season after winning two WTA Tour events. The former world No10 has the odds of 7.50 to win her 5th title, while her possible opponent, Stephens’ odds are 11.00 for the same.

Online gambling sites in Italy also mention another semi-finalist from last week, Petra Martic. The world No25 had her best run of the season in Rome which she can easily repeat in Parma now. The Croatian player only has one WTA victory so far. But she also reached the quarter-finals in the 2019 French Open. Martic can meet Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo in the semi-final now, who won her first WTA title in Mexico this year. A much more familiar player, Venus Williams is also in the field with a wildcard. She will face Slovakian Schmiedlova in the first round. The 7-time Grand Slam champion is only 92nd in the world ranking now and has the odds of 51.00 to win her first title since 2016.
