2022 will be a huge year for TV shows. We’ll get to see spinoffs, prequels and sequels, comic book adaptations, video game adaptations, and more. Some of the biggest franchises also have shows coming out that will take us back to familiar places. The list of the best new series in 2022 is a long one and there is something for everyone’s taste. Whether you like action, comedy, fantasy, or drama, the world of TV series is a vast space. With so many great options, one’s got to think about which streaming subscription to buy or renew. Of course, you can have them all as the upcoming entourage of shows is worth it.

Marvel and DC comic fans will both have something to look out for in 2022. The first DCEU TV show, Peacemaker, is coming to your screens in January and is certain to set up additional future DC projects. Marvel Studios have been pumping out big titles for years, and 2022 will be no different. Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and more projects are on their way. Adaptations of mega videogame franchises like Halo will also have fans on the edge of their seats. And then there’s Netflix and their ever ongoing dominance with TV series. If you’re done watching Squid Game, Sex Education, The Witcher Season 2, Lupin, Shadow and Bone, you get the idea, then you’ll like what’s in store for 2022. Some of the newest shows of 2022 will premiere on Netflix, including The Sandman and Vikings: Valhalla.

The first season of Halo will have nine episodes and the show premieres in 2022. There’s no exact release date yet but we have a recent trailer out. The story will focus on an alien invasion that threatens the existence of humans in an epic 26th-century showdown. Pablo Schreiber will take on the role of the legendary Master Chief. The fan-favorite Cortana will be played by Jen Taylor. The show is currently in post-production and has an already extensive cast. Showrunner Steven Kane has the chance to bring something truly magical to TV screens here. The great Steven Spielberg is also involved with Halo, as an executive producer. Spielberg is hoping for his third Best Picture Oscar this year with West Side Story. Everygame Sportsbook has the movie as the favorite with a +250 odds. Halo is definitely one of the best upcoming new series of 2022.

The first installment was released in 2001 and since then, fans have received many games across multiple genres and platforms. Halo is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The center of the franchise is Master Chief, a super soldier of the Spartans, and his AI companion, Cortana. The first installment of the franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved, was so successful that it became the blueprint for Xbox games. The game series consists of the original trilogy, reclaimer saga, spin-offs, and alternative reality games so the franchise is pretty big. The original trilogy focuses on the war between humans and The Covenant, an alien alliance. The show will most likely follow in these footsteps. If you’re thinking about familiarizing yourself with the franchise before the show premieres, check out the games and the lore. There are also books and comics based on the Halo franchise.

Moon Knight

2021 was a great year for Marvel fans. WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye all premiered this year. And we’re not even talking about the movies, these are just the TV shows. The amount of quality content released every year is great, and 2022 will be no different.

As you’d expect, multiple movies and shows will come out in 2022. Moon Knight is already looking like the best new Marvel series and we don’t even have a release date for it yet. The show will feature big shot names like Oscar Isaac, as the lead, and Ethan Hawke, whose role is still undisclosed. Moon Knight is based on the comic series created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin. The character is often described as Marvel’s Batman and some characteristics are similar but Moon Knight is considered a more “extreme” version.

The story is about a former American agent who gets his superpowers after he meets the Ancient Egyptian God Khonsu. Khonsu is the god of the Moon in ancient Egyptian mythology. The show is directed by Egyptian director Mohamed Diab and is Oscar Isaac’s third time starring in a show or film that focuses on Ancient Egypt. A live-action Moon Knight series has been in the talks since 2006 but the development only materialized a few years ago. Many actors were considered for the lead role before Oscar Isaac was cast. Honestly, we’re not disappointed with Marvel’s choice for this one. Moon Knight will not only be one of the best Marvel series next year but also one of the best new series in 2022.

Peacemaker is very important because it will be the first TV series set in the DC Extended Universe. The show was brought to light due to the success of The Suicide Squad (2021) and the popularity of John Cena’s character, Peacemaker. An 8-episode season is set to stream on HBO Max from January 13, 2022, already! James Gunn, director of The Suicide Squad and the Guardians of the Galaxy wrote the whole script in a mere eight weeks.

He’s also directing some of the episodes from the first season. If the show is a success, and everything indicates it will be, we have a chance to see more TV shows set in the DCEU in the future. Only the first three episodes will be released on January 13, we’ll get to see the rest weekly.

John Cena returns as Peacemaker who is the son of Auggie Smith, played by Robert Patrick. Cena and Patrick co-starred in The Marine so we’ll likely see some great chemistry. The upcoming season will focus on the origin of the DC superhero who is so dedicated to world peace that he is prepared to use anything to achieve it. Online sportsbook news in the US reports that director James Gunn hid multiple easter eggs in the show and that he feels confident that more DCEU shows are on the way. Peacemaker is also one of the most recommended and most-anticipated TV shows of 2022 on many media pages. So better get your popcorn ready and awaken your inner patriot because this will be one of the best new series of 2022.

2022 Best New Series: The Sandman

The Sandman is a Netflix TV show that will air 11 episodes in 2022. The comic book series written by Neil Gaiman is loved by many and Gaiman is considered one of the best writers of this generation. Gaiman’s works have received a lot of attention in the past years. Two of his works, Good Omens and American Gods were both adapted into TV shows. He was also heavily involved with the characters of Lucifer. A trailer was released months ago and online sportsbook news in the US predicts the release date for spring or early summer. There were many attempts to bring The Sandman comic to the screens of people but all failed. Ultimately, Netflix acquired the rights from Warner Bros. in a massive deal. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it’s “the most expensive TV series that division DC Entertainment has ever done”.

The first season will focus on Dream (Tom Sturridge), or the Lord of Dreams, who escapes after decades of imprisonment by a mortal wizard (Charles Dance) and sets out to recover his lost equipment. Like the previous projects intended to, the Netflix adaptation will pull inspiration from Preludes & Nocturnes. Since Gaiman is heavily involved with the project, fans are confident that the show will be more successful. The writer hinted that we might also have a glance at Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Dream’s older sibling. The story is described as a blend of modern myth and dark fantasy with historical and legendary elements. The Sandman is also a sort of insurance for Netflix, as the streaming giant continues to dominate the fantasy genre. Until we have a release date, we’re thinking about delving into the works of Neil Gaiman.

Vikings: Valhalla

Eventually a spinoff of Vikings, this show is set 100 years after the events of History’s previous show. Vikings: Valhalla currently has 24 confirmed episodes that will air exclusively on Netflix, on February 25, 2022. The show will focus on some of the most famous Vikings who ever walked this planet. Vikings: Valhalla begins in the early 11th century and revolves around the adventures of Leif Eriksson, Freydis Eriksdotter, Harald Hardrada, and the Norman King William the Conqueror. The ever-changing world of their time will push these characters to their limits as they leave behind a trail of death in their fight for survival. After the successes of Vikings and The Last Kingdom, historical shows have increasingly become more popular with audiences. And we’re here for it. It’s truly astonishing how Vikings have forever changed historical drama series.

If this show follows in the footsteps of Vikings it can easily be one of the best new series of 2022. In fact, it has the chance to run for multiple seasons and become a classic amongst the ranks of historical dramas.
