The 2022/23 snooker season returns after a month-break with the 2022 British Open which is the third ranking event of the season. The first tournament was held in 1980 when it was called British Gold Cup. Then it became a ranking tournament in 1985 and also received a new name, British Open. It was held annually until 2004 when it was dropped from the calendar. Last year though the British Open made its return. The qualification for the event was held in August, in Wigan. But the matches of the top 16 players in the world rankings will be played at Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes next Monday. The winners of these matches will continue in round 2 on Tuesday, where the remaining 64 players will meet. The final will be held on Sunday, the 2nd of October.

O’Sullivan Is the Top Favorite In the 2022 Cazoo British Open Winner Odds

Ronnie O’Sullivan will play in his first match since July as he was recovering from an arm injury in the last two months. The world No1 won his seventh world championship title in May after defeating Judd Trump in the final. At the age of 46, The Rocket is still in great form and belongs among the top favorites in every tournament he competes. The same is true in the British Open as online sportsbooks in the UK offer the smallest odds, 6.00 for his victory. It would be his second trophy from this tournament after his first win here 28 years ago.

Then he won against Thai player James Wattana, now his compatriot can be his main rival. Judd Trump, who stands behind him in the world rankings in second place. He won the 2022 Turkish Masters in March and finished as a runner-up in the Welsh Open. Trump got to the quarter-final of the European Masters last month and has an odds of 8.00 to go all the way now. Due to his age, the 2019 world champion has only played in this tournament once so far. Last year when he got to the third round. Based on his current form and results, he can do much better now.

Former tournament winners and other favorites

John Higgins has already won the British Open four times so far. He got his first win in 1995 when he defeated O’Sullivan in the final. While his last win was in 2004 before the renewal of the tournament. The four-time world champion had a brilliant last season after reaching the final in five different tournaments. Besides winning the 2022 Championship League. Now online gambling sites in the UK offer an odds of 13.00 for his fifth British Open title.

The same odds are offered for the victory of Yan Bingtao who has had one ranking tournament win so far. The 22-year-old Chinese player is one of the biggest talents of the sport who won the 2021 Masters. He was knocked out in the first round of this tournament last year, so surely he will aim for a much better result now. Meanwhile the defending champion, Mark Williams will try to keep his title. The Welsh three-time world champion is in good form after he reached the semi-final of the European Masters last month. His odds to win his third British Open title are also 13.00.

The world No3, Mark Selby hasn’t got any title since winning his fourth world championship title in 2021. Last season his best result was reaching the semi-final at the World Grand Prix. Selby doesn’t seem to be in good form this season either after losing in the qualifying rounds of the last two events. Unlike another English player, Kyren Wilson, who will arrive as the winner of the European Masters. It was the world No6 player’s fifth ranking title. His odds to win again are 21.00 on bet365.
