  • 2022 French Open is held between 22 May - 5 June
  • Barbora Krejcikova is the defending champion
  • The current world No1, Iga Swiatek is the biggest favorite following her superb form

The women’s singles tournament in this year’s French Open is taking place between 22 May and 5 June at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris. Barbora Krejcikova is the defending champion and she will compete again. But the 2022 French Open women’s singles predictions mention another Eastern European player, the world No1 Iga Swiatek as the main favorite. Former winner Simona Halep and top-form players like Paula Badosa, and Ons Jabeur can also win the trophy.

Following the retirement of former world No1 Ashleigh Barty and in the absence of the Williams sisters, Iga Swiatek seems like a huge favorite to win in Paris. The Polish world No1 won the event in 2020 which was her first Grand Slam title. We can find other former Roland Garros winners in this year’s main draw. Like the 2016 winner, Garbine Muguruza, and the 2018 winner Simona Halep. Plus the defending champion, Barbora Krejcikova who also got her first Grand Slam trophy in Paris. All of them can win the tournament again along with top-form players such as Ons Jabeur, Paula Badosa, or Maria Sakkari. One more player to look out for will be four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka who left the competition last year in stormy conditions.

Swiatek Is the Top Favorite in the 2022 French Open Women’s Singles Predictions

The current world No1, Iga Swiatek has good memories from Paris after winning her first Grand Slam title here two years ago. She was only 19 at the time of her victory, making her the youngest women’s champion since Monika Seles. It is still her only Grand Slam title. But she was close to another in Melbourne this year where she got to the semi-final. Since then Swiatek won five more tournaments including WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Rome. She won 28 straight matches since her last defeat in February. So no wonder that online sportsbooks in France highly favor the Polish player to win in Paris. They offer the odds of 1.635 for her victory.

Swiatek’s dominance can also been seen in the 2022 French Open women’s singles predictions which offer much higher odds, 7.90 for the next favorite, Simona Halep. The former world-ranking leader is only in 19th place after missing most of the previous seasons due to her injuries. Halep won a WTA 250 event in Melbourne at the beginning of the year and reached the semi-final in Indian Wells. Even though she was knocked out in the last 32 in Rome by American Danielle Collins, her previous results on clay make her a favorite. Just like former French Open winner, Garbine Muguruza. The world No10 has been struggling this season and hasn’t won any tournament since the 2021 WTA Finals last November. Her odds to finish on top now are 18.00 on 22Bet.

Top-form players like Jabeur and Badosa can cause surprise

Ons Jabeur is probably the second best-form player at the moment in the WTA Tour. After winning the 2022 Madrid Open and finishing as a runner-up in Rome. The Tunisian player moved up to sixth place in the world rankings. Now online gambling sites in France offer the odds of 12.00 for her first GS title. Jabeur’s best result in the French Open has been getting to the 4th round. Surely she can improve on that with a similar performance. Another player with good recent results is the world No3, Paula Badosa. The Spanish player won her third WTA Tour title in Sydney in January after defeating Krejcikova in the final. She also reached the semi-final in Indian Wells and in Stuttgart. While she was playing well in Miami until her withdrawal.

Now Badosa can get a good result in Paris where she reached the quarter-final last year. Her odds to become the champion are 12.50. Naomi Osaka can also get back to form in the French Open which she left unexpectedly last year. After focusing on her mental health, the four-time Grand Slam champion returned back this season. Her best result has been a runner-up finish in Miami. But it still means that Osaka is not seeded for the first time since 2017. Her odds to win are 19.00. While the defending champion’s odds are very similar with 20.00. Barbora Krejcikova caused a huge surprise after winning her first Grand Slam title last year. She reached the quarter-finals at the 2022 Australian Open but hasn’t been playing too much since due to an elbow injury.
