According to online sportsbook news in South Korea, the presidential election race is very intense. Personal attacks and allegations of corruption are being raised from both sides. In the meantime, there is still an absence of meaningful policy debate and clarity on policy deliverables. Thus, it is hard to expect as per 2022 South Korea Presidential election odds, the exact outcome of the elections that are scheduled for March 9, 2022. As for now, two candidates are dominating the race, including Lee Jee-myung of the ruling Democratic Party, and Yoon Seok-youl of the opposition People Power Party. Both candidates are unconventional figures and none of them fit the typical profile. Alongside them, Sim Sang-jeung of the left-wing Justice Party and Ahn Cheol-soo of the centrist People’s Party are in the mix. However, they have no realistic chance of winning. Here is what the polls suggest and a summary of the two rivals.

The Latest Polls Favor Lee

Most recent polls show that the race is almost neck-and-neck. In other words, there is no dominant figure yet in the race. But, Lee is leading Yoon according to Foreign Policy. Before Christmas, it was Yoon who was holding a very narrow lead in the polls. But then Gallup Korea poll put Lee slightly ahead with 36% over Yoon at 35%.

This shows that the outcome of the election is very much up in the air despite Lee and Yoon switching places. Not to mention that almost half of the young voters between 18 - 29 are still undecided.

Lee Jee-myung is Backed by the Ruling Party

The former governor of Gyeonggi Province has resigned recently from his position to focus on the presidential campaign. He aims to continue the Moon administration’s foreign policy and has emphasized a pragmatic approach to diplomacy. Thus, we the support of the ruling party his odds at 22BET Sportsbook stand at 1.4. However, Lee faces several challenges chief among them is corruption allegations. He is also perceived by many as having no experience on the national level. Thus, it remains to be seen whether he will successfully survive or not against his rival.

Yoon Seok-youl Enjoys the Support of Conservatives

The former prosecutor-general has served under the same Moon administration since 2019. He was appointed as a hero for liberals, but soon he took a path of the conservatives which is typically unusual. Although he has no experience in electoral policies, his chances to take down Lee are high with 2.4 odds to be named the next South Korean president.
