The first Women’s Citi Open was held in 2011 in Maryland but it moved to Washington in the following year. It has been organized in Rock Creek Park ever since. Except for the last two years when it was canceled. Now the WTA 250 tournament returns with a star-filled field including Venus Williams. The seven-time major champion will make her first appearance in a singles tournament after a year break. But we can also find Simona Halep, Emma Raducanu, and the 2019 winner, Jessica Pegula in the competing players. We can see from this year’s list, that the hard-court tournament is a popular choice for players. As it offers a great opportunity to play ahead of the season’s last Grand Slam, the US Open.

Halep Leads the 2022 WTA Washington Winner Odds Ahead of Pegula

The third seed of the tournament, Simona Halep has played well on grass in the previous month after reaching the semi-final at three tournaments. Including this year’s Wimbledon where she defeated Paula Badosa and Amanda Anisimova on her way. She lost against Elena Rybakina in the last four but it was still a great result for the former world No1. Now online sportsbooks in the US offer the smallest odds, +250.00 for her victory. Halep will start against a qualifier, Cristina Bucsa in the first round. But she can meet the top seed, Jessica Pegula in the semi-final after both of them were drawn in the top half.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHPOXH4N3Ik Pegula won the last event here in 2019 which was also her first WTA Tour title. Since then the 28-year-old American reached the final of two more tournaments but lost on both occasions. One of them was at this year’s Madrid Open where she lost against Ons Jabeur. Pegula got to the quarter-final both at the 2022 Australian Open and the 2022 French Open. While she also reached the semi-final in the Miami Open in March. The world No7 will have a great opportunity now to win her second title supported by the home crowd. Her odds to do so are +450.00 in the 2022 WTA Washington winner odds.

Raducanu, Azarenka and other US Favorites

Emma Raducanu hasn’t really got any good results since winning her first Grand Slam title at the 2021 US Open. It was also the 19-year-old British player’s first ever WTA Tour title which shocked the tennis world. Raducanu has been struggling this season though and only reached the second round in all other majors this year. Her overall best result has been a quarter-final at the Stuttgart Open so far but she might advance further in Washington. Her odds to win her second title are +700.00. Bookmakers offer similar odds for the victory of Victoria Azarenka. The two-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t played since this year’s Roland Garros and skipped the whole grass season.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5c3fcfqETk The Belarusian will make her return now as the fourth seed of the tournament. Azarenka is strong on this surface after reaching the final of the US Open three times before. Now her odds to get her 42nd WTA Tour title here are +800.00. Online gambling sites in the US also mention a former tournament winner, Sloane Stephens among the favorites. The 29-year-old American won the event in 2015 which was her first WTA Tour title.  Now Sloane will have a tough job repeating this result after facing Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in the opening round. While one of the legends of the sport, Venus Williams will make her tournament debut against a qualifier. Her odds to win her 50th trophy are +3300.00 on BetOnline.
