Brutal Crimes

Edwin Valero, lightweight boxing world champion, committed suicide in 2010. He hanged himself in his prison cell after stabbing his wife three times, with a knife, in a Venezuelan hotel. Valero had abused his wife and other family members in the past, but they always backed off after filing a complaint. Valero struggled with several addictions, and the treatments did not work. He kept drinking and taking drugs. Valero was dangerous to everybody. He wanted to fight everyone, and cocaine made him paranoid. It must have been so hard for his wife to deal with a trained boxer who was aggressive outside of the rink. Read our article about other famous athletes who doped to win.

Another South American professional athlete killed his wife. Carlos Monzón, the middleweight world champion boxer, also beat his two wives regularly. His violent nature made him an excellent and acknowledged athlete but an abusive man in his personal life. Many of her mistresses accused him of domestic violence, and he was famous for beating the paparazzi. His first wife even shot him in the leg. You can probably imagine what must have gone down for her to do such a thing. The police kept an eye on him due to the piling reports. However, in 1988 after an argument, he strangled then pushed his second wife out of their second-floor terrace. One of Argentina’s most famous athletes got an eleven years sentence. Toward the end of his punishment, Monzón could leave the prison from time to time, and on one of these occasions, he died in a car accident in 1995.

Rogowski, the Jealous Killer

Another athlete who killed someone. Mark Rogowski is a legend among professional skateboarders. He was at the peak of his career in the eighties and nineties. Then his girlfriend left him. Maybe that was what triggered something, or perhaps he was always like that.

Rogowski was terribly jealous. He kept harassing his former partner constantly, breaking into her apartment and threatening her. In 1991, one of the ex-girlfriend’s good acquaintances, the 22-year-old Jessica Bergsten, called him unexpectedly. Jessica, not suspecting anything, asked the skateboarder to show her around the city because she had just moved there. Rogowski did so, and then Jessica was gone. As it turned out, the athlete invited her in after their walk, where he whacked her in the head, handcuffed, raped, and then killed her. They found her body buried in the desert. The court denied his pleas for parole many times, so he is still in prison.

Athletes Who Killed Someone – O.J. Simpson

One of the most famous lawsuits in the United States’ history, and one of the most-watched TV broadcasts, was the trial of the American football player and actor O. J. Simpson. They accused him of the murder of his wife and her lover in 1994. Simpson contradicted himself several times during the trials, and even though they found his DNA at the scene, he was eventually released. Though, they made him pay $ 33.5 million to the murdered woman’s family. However, Simpson got arrested anyway after an attempted robbery with his companions in 2007.

He was found guilty of a total of 12 charges. They released him, but he keeps a low profile. Simpson was keen to make fun of the murder lawsuit. For example, he attacked the host with a banana during an interview while humming Psycho’s theme song in 1998. O. J. did everything he could to make money from the double murder. Although his book, If I Did It, was not allowed to be published, he did auction off the suit he wore during the trials when he was released. No one can be entirely sure whether Simpson committed the crime or not since he was not sentenced for it. However, there are so many suspicious circumstances around him that he is most likely one of the athletes who killed their wives.

Jovan Belcher’s Case

Another American football player, Jovan Belcher, killed someone, then ended his own life, as well. The then 25-year-old Kansas City player had been arguing a lot with the mother of his three-month-old child for some time before that fateful night. The 22-year-old woman came home too late from a concert and started a heated argument. Belcher’s mother was also in the apartment, and she called the police. According to her, Belcher apologized immediately after shooting the girl and then kissed her forehead. Then he went to the stadium, where he thanked his coach and staff for what they had done for him and shot himself in the parking lot.

Murderous Boxers

Evangelos Goussis is an Australian boxer, kick-boxer, and a real gangster. He killed two people during the infamous “Gangland War” in Melbourne. In 2004, for example, he killed the crime figure, Lewis Caine, with a headshot and then executed the leader of the gang, Lewis Moran. Evangelos Goussis probably killed several other people, but police had found evidence for only these two. He is currently serving a life sentence, although the circumstances are still not clear.

The American boxer, Clifford Etienne, nicknamed the Black Rhino, was sentenced to many-many years. Although the Ring Magazine named him the most exciting boxer in the world in 2000, who fought even with Mike Tyson, he did not become famous for his boxing career. In 2005, Etienne robbed a shop, took a car with a family in it, and almost killed a police officer. Even though he didn’t go through with it, he was ready to kill. So he was charged with attempted murder, among many other things. He was no stranger to prison since they locked him up before. He was sentenced to a total of 160 years in prison. Ouch.

Pro Athletes Who Killed

John Alexander Riccardi abused his former girlfriend, Connie Navarro, for a long time before he killed her in 1983. At times he raped her, other times kept the former cheerleader locked up. Once, he handcuffed the woman’s 13-year-old son, Dave Navarro, the guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers between 1993-1998, to the toilette. Connie had already requested a restraining order when Riccardi broke into her home in Los Angeles and shot the woman and her best friend. Riccardi fled and was captured only eight years later. He can’t leave prison for the rest of your life.

Unbelievable tragedies

The American soccer player, Rae Carruth, didn’t want a child, so he hired someone to kill her eight-month pregnant girlfriend in 1997. The girl was shot from a car by four bullets. She died from her injuries at the hospital, but the doctors could save the child’s life. His son suffered brain damage due to the shots, but he is alive. Carruth was hiding in the trunk of his car for a while, but the police caught him soon after. They sentenced him to 18-24 years in prison. He got released in 2018, but people don’t know much of his whereabouts.

One of the most shocking athletes who killed someone was a merciless teenager. Stoke City’s talented football player, Andrew Hall, was only eighteen when he stabbed his fifteen-year-old girlfriend a total of sixty times at a house party because he thought she was unfaithful. The football player, about to get a professional contract, went to a nearby pub after the murder, where he announced murdering someone. Hall was sentenced to life imprisonment. It’s hard to find any information about him at online sportsbook sites in the UK.

Bodybuilders Who Became Dangerous

Bertil Fox was a scary figure, even among the athletes who committed murder. His career started in 1969 when at the age of 18, he won the Junior Mr. Britain bodybuilding competition. “Brutal” was his nickname, supposedly because he trained very hard, but in retrospect, it could have been due to his nature too. Even after his retirement, he got a different kind of media attention.

The former bodybuilding champion couldn’t get over that his 20-year-old fiancée left him in 1998. The athlete went to the girl’s workplace in a Caribbean clothing store where her mother worked too. The mother tried to push Fox out of the door during their argument, who snapped. He pulled out a gun and shot them both. Fox defended himself by claiming that the gun went off accidentally in both cases. They sentenced him to death by hanging, but later they changed the verdict to life imprisonment.

Another bodybuilder also killed out of “love”. In 1993, Gordon Kimbrough wrapped an electric cord around his fiancée’s neck, tied a knot over it, and stabbed her in the throat several times with a knife after she confessed to him that she had slept with another man and wanted to cancel the wedding. Kimbrough spent the night next to the corpse, injecting some chemical in his neck with the intent to kill himself. In the morning, the police found a bizarre scene. Kimbrough held a kitchen knife to his neck, muttering about cheating.

Athletes Who Killed – Unbelievable Brutality

Bruno Fernandes de Souza, the Ozil Flamengo’s goalkeeper, has been accused of doing unspeakable things to his lover. For a while, he claimed to have a clear conscience but started whistling a different tune soon. Supposedly, the married football player was afraid that his wife would find out that he knocked up his model and porn star mistress.

He tried to persuade her to have an abortion unsuccessfully. The woman threatened to sue if the goalkeeper, who had a promising career ahead of him, did not acknowledge his child. However, Souza, along with his friends, abducted the woman to brutally abuse and then murder her. They dismembered the corpse, gave some of the remains to his Rottweilers, then buried the rest of her body, pouring concrete over it. Their child was four months old at the time, but De Souza and his wife claimed to have adopted the baby from a poor relative.

Oscar Pistorius was one of the most famous Paralympics in the world. However, he became best known when it turned out that the athlete killed someone. According to Bet365 Sportsbook, Pistorius was the first runner in the Summer Games who had both of his legs amputated. He shot his girlfriend, the 29-year-old former FHM cover girl Reeva Steenkamp on 14 February 2013. He said he believed her a burglar, who was sneaking in at 3 a.m. She died immediately from the injuries to her head, arms, and chest. He never denied the fact that he shot her. Though, he justified his actions by confusing her with a burglar. She was in the bathroom when he began shooting. The neighbors called the police and claimed that there were four gunshots, but not at the same time. This means that Pistorius lied and knew who he was shooting at.
