Popular Version of Solitaire in Best Single-Player Card Games

Solitaire is one of the most famous single-player card games. Its most well-known version is Klondike also known as Canfield Solitaire. This game is available on most online gambling sites in Germany.  The history of Klondike goes back to the 19th century to the Gold Rush era in North America when it was a perfect game to spend the night with. The game is still popular due to its simplicity and easy access. But be aware, as players also need their strategic skills to win it. If you don’t know them already, here are the basic rules of the game.

The Rules of Klondike

  • 7 piles of cards are laid down in a row, with each pile containing a lap more than the last (so in the first pile on the left there is only one card, two cards in the second pile etc.)
  • The top card in all seven piles is turned up.
  • The remaining cards form the stock and are placed facedown.
  • There are four foundations above the rows where you need to build full stacks of cards starting with Aces and ending with Kings in all four suits.

  • You can move the cards in the piles in alternating colors by building downwards.
  • Empty spaces can be filled by Kings only.
  • If you can’t move any cards in the piles, you can use the stock cards. If you can’t use that card either, it will go to the waste pile where the top card is still available to use.
  • The aim of the game is to build complete suits in the foundations.
It might sound a bit tricky first but you can practice it for free on several sites now. Making it one of the best single-player card games. You can also read more about this game in our previous article.

The Best Single-Player Card Games: Napoleon at St Helena

Napoleon was a great military and political leader but he also had to spend lots of time in exile. In his last years he lived on the island of St Helena where according to the legends, he played this card game. In this version of solitaire, you have ten piles with four cards in each, all faced up. The remaining cards form the stock just like in Klondike. But here there are eight foundations as two 52-card packs are used. Aces should be placed in the foundations as they are available. While top cards of the piles can be moved and placed only on another of the same suit and next-higher in rank. This version of solitaire is quite difficult and you need quite a lot of luck so it’s more suitable for experienced players.

Pyramid

In this game, 28 cards are set up in pyramid form in 7 rows. Each card is covered by the two cards from the next row, except the cards in the bottom row. You can only move uncovered cards and the top card from the waste pile. But you can only get rid of the cards if their ranks equal 13. So eg. a 10 and a 3 or a J and a 2. (Ace means 1 here, J is 11, Q is 12 and K is 13).

The final goal of the game is to remove all cards from the pyramid. It is easier than other versions but you might not win this game all the time. Which is a bit annoying if you spend quite a long time with it.

Poker Squares

If you’d like to play something different, you can try the solo versions of classic games like poker. In poker squares, you play alone but the main rules are the same. You have to form the best possible hands in a five-by-five grid from the available 25 cards. Each hand has a different point value, depending on the hierarchy of the poker hands. Two different scoring system exist, the American and the English. With the American system reflecting the difficulty of getting a poker hand in the actual poker. So royal flush means the most points with 100, while one pair means only 2 points. The score of all your hands makes your total score. Usually, you need at least 200 points to win the game. The game of poker squares is great to practice ahead of multi-player poker which is available on most online casino sites in Germany.
